Missing pieces
In our family tree we have a very solid brick wall that I have spent a lot of time trying to break down, my paternal grandmother was Maude Louisa Day/O'Day her father was Samuel Day /O'Day he named his father as George Day and his mother as Mary O'Loughlin and said they resided in Tasmania although two people with these names have not been found . The closest I have come to the answer is George Day married to Mary Backall ,Bickell, Beckell, but have not found any evidence that Samuel was their child. I have also been told that Samuel on his death bed told Maude that his father was George Day and that his mother was a Maori woman that George met while working as crew on a ship traveling back and forth from Tasmania to New Zealand . As yet 2012 I have not been able to find any facts to support this story
