About our family

So far, "McGranahan" is the most uncommon name in the tree not counting the Dutch name "Scheerhoorn" who only married into the clan.  Even that name''s not uncommon by Dutch standards and unfortunately for the poor, common Scheerhoorns, "Scheer" and "Hoorn" in Dutch mean "Shear" and "Horn" in English so apparently my anscestors on my father's side worked in agriculture.  As for the other names, "Long" is probably less common in England only than the names "Smith" & "Jones" and "Stewart" is also a Scottish standard so we're all pretty common so far.

Unless somebody does something spectacular pretty quick I'm afraid we're dead average.

Missing pieces

If anybody has any idea where Charlotte McGranahan's mother, Emily Long Stewart, originally settled after emmigrating to the states, please let me know. Right now the earliest info we have puts her and her husband, John Stewart, in Harley based on their graves in the Stewart family plot in Hartley's Pleasant View Cemetery. There are three children buried there with them, 2 unamed infants and a son, Luverne J. Stewart, born 1892 and died in 1918 at the age of 26. We're quite certain the Longs emigrated in or around 1879 when Emily was 18. That leaves a 12 year gap we need to fill.

Thanks,

Mark...
