Kerr Web Site

Welcome to Kerr Web Site

My name is Brian Kerr and I started this site. I'm an archaeologist and historian, born and raised in Glasgow but now living in Surrey. I collected quite a lot of basic information from my parents, James Christie Kerr and Annie Elizabeth Carnie, and have also used documents that they owned or had inherited. This site was created using MyHeritage.com. I started off with establishing the basics of the family tree, chasing back the main families - Kerr, Carnie, Dalrymple, Stewart and so on - as far back as I could push them, with the help of the Scotland's People website. It helped that two branches of the family lived in small places for a very long time, which helps to push the Dalrymples (New Luce) and the Carnies (Newhaven) back to the mid 17th century, which is as far as I can reasonably get given the complete and utter absence of aristocrats in the family tree.  I'm grateful to the late Carolyn Achata of Tennessee who drew up the family tree of the Dalrymple family, which includes information provided to her by my late uncle Gilbert Dinsmore from Stranraer. Now that the tree is established, I've started adding photographs from the large collections of Jean Carnie, Annie Howie (Stewart) Carnie and Ella (Dalrymple) Simpson. Unfortunately, a lot of these photographs are of unidentified relatives, so most of them will remain unknown.
