Netherlands, Holland-America Line, Passenger Lists
2,595,792 rekords
This collection contains records of passengers who registered to the Holland America Line, between the years 1900 and 1969. The Holland America Line was a passenger and shipping line that brought thousands of passengers from the Netherlands to North America. The first ship Rotterdam (1872) sailed from Rotterdam to New York City on 15 October 1872. Other American ports were later added in the late 19th century. Records typically include the name of the passenger, date and place of departure, place of arrival, the name of the ship, and the place that the travel was booked from.

Initially founded as the Dutch-American Steamship Company (Nederlandsch-Amerikaansche Stoomvaart Maatschappij) in 1873, it became known as the Holland America Line (HAL) because of the direct connection between the Netherlands and the Americas. In 1895, the company offered its first vacation cruise, and again in 1910. In 1971, the company stopped its passenger transportation service and became an American-owned cruise line after being purchased in 1989.
The records in this collection were made public by the Rotterdam City Archives.
