Australia, Victoria Death Index, 1836-1985
6,830,782 rekords
This collection is an index to Victoria, Australia, burial records (from 1836 to 1853), and death records (from 1853 to 1985). Information listed generally includes: name of deceased, gender, age, parents’ names, death place, year of registration (this is typically, but not always, the same as the death year), and registration number.

The bulk of the records begin in 1853 — the year civil registration began in Victoria. Information provided in this index can be used to purchase a copy of the full death record; uncertified copies (downloadable images) can be purchased and downloaded from the Births Deaths Marriages Victoria website. Obtaining a copy of a full death record is important because it will likely list additional information about the deceased and his or her death.
