Index to civil marriage records of Costa Rica, created by the civil registry office of the Tribunal Supremo de Elecciones, Republica de Costa Rica. The majority of the records date from 2011 to early 2015. Some earlier records are also included. The index also includes records regarding change of marital status, such as divorce or becoming a widow or widower.<br><br>Information listed in the index includes: names of spouses, marriage date, marriage place, and reference information for locating the original certificate. The personal ID numbers (número de cédula) of each spouse, are also often given. Since the número de cédula is unique to each individual, this number can be very useful for locating additional records pertaining to each person, or for ordering copies of original certificates. An original certificate will often provide additional details about the marriage and more personal information about the bride and the groom. If a person's ID number begins with a “P,” this ID is not actually a número de cédula—which is only issued to Costa Rican citizens—but rather indicates that the individual is a foreigner.
