"... when winds up to 46 miles an hour slammed into the annual Vashon Island yacht race on Puget Sound Saturday night. The Pacific Coast Class sailboat Endeavor, owned by Dave Faires of Mercer Island, sank in Puget Sound miles off Bluff at about the same time Townsend drowned in Passage between Vashon Island and the Kitsap Peninsula.
