What kind of results do I get with a MyHeritage DNA test?

Updated over 4 months ago

Testing your DNA with MyHeritage provides you with two types of results: An Ethnicity Estimate and DNA Matches.

  • Ethnicity Estimate - a comprehensive breakdown of your unique DNA composition. MyHeritage analyzes your ancestral roots in great depth to provide a highly diverse percentage-based ethnicity breakdown, which includes 79 ethnicities from around the world. You will discover where your heritage originated from and how much each ethnicity is part of your ancestral origins, and even view the main life events of your direct ancestors on the Ethnicity map.

On the Ethnicity Estimate page, you will also get your Genetic Groups, a breakdown covering 2100+ geographic regions. For each Genetic Group, we display additional valuable insights into the group such as top places where the group’s members lived during different time periods, migration patterns, common surnames, common given names, common ethnicities, and related groups that share similar DNA segments.

  • DNA Matches - This technology compares data from autosomal DNA test results and family trees to identify matches between users that share genetic sequences indicate a family relationship. When you test your DNA with MyHeritage DNA, you are eligible to receive DNA Matches with others who have tested with MyHeritage, as well as those who have tested with other services. We allow users of all major testing providers to upload their DNA results to MyHeritage, widening your matching pool and making it possible for you to meet even more new relatives.
