Why can't I edit my online tree?

There might be several reasons why your tree cannot be edited online:

1. You may not be able to edit your tree online because the tree was created in an older version of Family Tree Builder software (FTB 6.0 or older).

Prior versions of Family Tree Builder supported only one-way publishing from Family Tree Builder to the family site on MyHeritage, and updates could not travel in the opposite direction. This meant that the published family tree was read-only on MyHeritage.com and could not be edited online. It could only be edited in Family Tree Builder.

Now, as of version 8.0, Family Tree Builder syncs (synchronizes) the tree with your family site and vice versa.

To download Family Tree Builder 8.0, please click here. Sync your tree with the site, and you will be able to edit it online. Changes made online will appear on your FTB software after the next sync.

In order to make the tree editable online using Family Tree Builder 8.0, you will need to sync the tree at least once with your family site. If you do not know how to sync, click here for further instructions.

If you do not plan to use the FTB software in the future, please contact us.

2. If your family site subscription has expired: if your site subscription has expired and hasn't been renewed, the access to your family site will be limited. If you have fewer than 250 people on your site, you can downgrade your site back to the Basic free plan.

3. Another reason for not being able to edit your tree is because you are the site manager and not the site creator. In this case, contact the site creator and advise him or her to check the editing permissions in his family site.
