Our genotype refers to the variants or alleles that we carry in a particular genetic location. For example, if at a specific location on the chromosome 6 inherited from your father, you inherited an A, and at the same location on the chromosome 6 inherited from your mother, you inherited a T: your paternal allele is A, your maternal allele is T, and your genotype is AT.
Now you will ask yourself how the above is linked to your appearance? We also have what are known phenotypes. Phenotypes are any trait that can be measured, whether completely genetic, completely environmental or a mix of both. Also, in addition to those factors, there could also be a factor of pure luck (stochastic factors).
To answer you as concisely as possible: A genotype is the combination of alleles at a genetic location and the phenotype is the physical manifestation of that genotype (i.e. our hair colour, skin tones, etc.). However, phenotypes do not always correspond with genotypes. This is because other genes, your environment, and other factors can affect how your physical traits appear, so the same genotypes shared by family members do not always lead to the same observable results.
