How do I change the home person in my online family tree?

By default, your family tree will open focused on the individual associated with the current user (registered member) that is logged in and viewing the tree.

In order to associate your user or your site members’ users with their individual in the tree, please see this FAQ post: How do I associate myself with the family tree on my site?

If you wish to change this default setting, please follow these steps:

1. Log in to your family site.

2. Click on your name in the upper right corner of the screen and select ‘Site Settings’:

3. Choose the ‘Home page’ section and click on the ‘Other’ tab to find the option of changing the root individual (home person) of the family tree.

4. Please make sure to uncheck the option ‘Individual and tree associated with the current user (when possible)’ so that the person who is viewing the tree at the moment won’t be shown up as a root-individual.

5. Then click on the ‘Pick individual’ menu and select ‘Specific individual in family tree’. In the text box that appears, start typing the name of the individual in the tree whom you would like to set as a home person, as shown below.

Select the correct individual from the pop-up list.

Note: If you have more than one family tree, it is only possible to choose one main family tree and main person to display.

6. Click on ‘Save’ in order to save your settings.
