South Asian ethnicity
South Asian people trace their deep origins to the assimilation of various Indo-Aryan peoples into the native populations of the region, including the Dravidians and Sino-Tibetans. Living in what is today the most populated region in the world, including modern-day India and Pakistan, South Asian people speak a diverse set of languages and practice every major religion including Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, and Judaism. The migration of South Asian peoples out of the region intensified during the colonial era, and today there are significant populations of South Asian people in Australia, the Americas, the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, and other parts of Asia. The modern practice of yoga traces its origins to ancient Indian spiritual practices still studied by yogic adherents today. Due to religious and cultural norms in India, the region is home to more vegetarians than the rest of the world put together.
