First Cousins

I have in my father side of the family two couples that were actually first cousins. When I try to make the connection the system just creates a segund record of the same person and does not allow the connection.

Do I have to enter the set of parents again on to be able to continue with the tree building.

Can you please help if you have already gone through this same situation

Thank you

Hi Carlos,

I'm not sure that I'm understanding the problem.

Cousins will not connected together, because Cousins are definied through the blood line. For instance, me and my siblings are cousins of the children of the sister of my father. In the tree structure with my siblings, I'm connected to my parents. My Cousins are connected to their parents. That's all.

Of course the picture is a bit different, if two named cousins are married together. Then You have a connection between this two persons.

Hope this helps.

Best regards

Remo

Hi Remo

After I read my own email I felt also that I was not as clear as I could have and I apologize for that.

Right now I have what you mention. I have two couples separate.

Let me try to explain better

First couple is Antonio and Ana - segund couple is Manuel and Maria Vitorina

the first couple has a son Antonio2 who married Thereza daughter of the second couple.

Ana (first couple) is a sister of Mauel (segund Couple) so Antonio2 and Thereza are first cousins.

I had started these couple separately and  I had entered Manuel and Anna Luiz has parents of Manuel (segund couple)

Now when I try to connect Ana of the first couple with the same parents it creates a segund record and it does not do it. Is there a way around this?

I thank you so much for taking the time to reply to my question.

Appreciate it

Hi Carlos,

If You try to connect Ana (actually withou parents) to the same parents as Mauel, You will have the, depending on the point of view (base person of view) a red ball with 2 marker.

It's only a display helper for a person displayed on the actual screen of the tree in two (or more) different branches. The profile of a person with this marker is the same.

This kind of displaying a tree structure prevents to display cross connections. In some cases this could lead to a construct like a fishing net.

Hope this helps. If not, feel free to ask.

Best regards

Hi Remo

Ok that seems to be what I got but I was not aware tha is the way this structure would work. The connection I am trying to make is not that complicated and I thought the prgram would handle it in terms of displaying the connection as a regular one.

I am going to try it again and see if I can get it the way you explain. It is not visibly nice to have the same person twice on the structure but it is what it is. It is not intuitive to someone who does not understand what is behind the creation of the event.

I appreciate your help - thank you for replying so promptly and so clearly.

Best Regards

Carlos

Hi Carlos,

Thank You for the feedback.

It's not easy to put complex tree structures in a proper flat, two dimensional view. We had in the past, years ago discussions about it.

Anyway, if You have more questions, feel free to ask. We, the moderators and other users help as good as we can.

Best regards
