When I was a newbie, I made a mess by uploading 2 trees of 60,000 people I found on rootsweb. There are a few different managers connected in my site trees so how do I delete and replace with a trimmed tree gedcom and start afresh? They are undoubtedly linked en masse.
[I once bought FTB software but of course MyHeritage took over.]
There are about 3000 individuals in these trees that are valid and I am trimming them in AQ AncestryQuest because I can mass delete in their PC software, The goal is to upload the trimmed tree to MyHeritage and continue matching. But I want to get rid of the other two ball and chains while assuring myself there will be no massive loss of valid research.
There was an error in the uploading of family DNA, and an adopted daughter's DNA is attributed to me. I would like to fix this error, but need to remove the dna in the accounts , then reload the proper raw dna to the proper name.
It happens from time to time, that within the copy area of a record match (left side found person, right side the person in my tree), I cannot copy parts of the records. In special, this happens with marriage data. I copied some of the data already several times, but it looks like it is not stored in the ancestors´records.
Whoa, the DNA matches page keeps loading and loading and loading as it loads a group of new matches bit by bit, slowly. Matches sorted by? Not sorted by relationship, prefer sorted by the date added to the list and less graphics and boxes, much of which are empty, which take up so much room.
We need tools to manage matches. And please, never change the list order, use the date the people were added to the list, always show newest matches at the end of the list so we can keep track of their order, know where to go to pick up where we left off. We need their page with the match among the people listed with them to go to the next match or the next page. Not one scrolling page, just paginate by no more than 50 matches per page. Why do we have to wait and scroll and scroll to get to a match we know is near the bottom of the page last time we saw it, but no idea where on the page now and have to scroll again and again looking for the match? This is the longest and slowest loading display of matches I've encountered, ever. A match is on page 47, that never changes, that's the best way for me to work.
Links are scripted I guess because when I save the page locally, they don't work so I can't archive the list including working links in a complete html file. Very frustrating. I have over 17,700 matches at AncestryDNA as of today, and lately they are coming 50 new matches every day so organizing and archiving is a full time job. Thankfully I am retired and have time to work on it but I am not enjoying sites making my job more work than it should be.
What makes it easier to keep up is a simple csv file download with all the info (including relationship, centimorgans tree address link, contact address link etc. Add new matches at the end of the list makes more sense unllike Ancestry and FTDNA slipping matches between those I've already seen on a prior day so I miss them sometimes and changing what page my older matches were found. Show users matches by choices of date added to list: new to old, old to new, or by relationship close to distant or distant to close and by a particular relationship 1st cousin 2nd cousin etc, are good options too.
I do like there is a good amount of info about each DNA match, but time is wasted scrolling two screen pages when one would do for that data and then some.
While the new DNA data is nice, the display is way oversized for the data provided so it takes more pages (238 pages today at default size) than necessary to print or save. I zoomed the pages smaller and got it down to 158 pages, and it would be half that if the display was trimmed up better. That is 3 matches per page except the first page has 2 so that is 473 matches on one very long page today. That's crazy. I don't care if I never see such a page again. To present the matches that way is disappointing and not well thought out.
Y'all can do better. If you want to get into the DNA info presentation area and keep your site from going from snail slow to unusable, you need to pare the graphics and wasted space everywhere on every page. We don't need glitz to get our info. Even if it looks like Windows 3.1, which wasn't pretty, if you put as much data on a page as possible at a reasonable size font, and just adequate white space, that will do fine by me. I'm all about the data, pretty doesn't mean a thing to me, just give me the info.
That's my opinion of the new DNA matches (beta) and MyHeritage site in general. I'd like to see other's ideas about what they want to see as I'm sure my ideas are not the best for everyone. I just know what works for me.
About 3 weeks ago I found the relationship report could not find my direct relation with an ancient ancestor(200 AD) which it could before. If I break the query into 2 or 3 parts it finds the relationships fine, but not all out. I contacted "my heritage" twice but no response. Anybody have similar issues, suggestions?
I'm new to MH, and have mostly followed the mailed advices in adding already registered relatives. The man who showed up as my paternal great grandfather now turns out to be the wrong man. Some distant relative has registered him as my great grandmother's husband and father to her children -- but his middle name, birth place (and other childhood data), parents, and concequently a horde of relatives, do not belong to my great grandfather. The originator of this record has even 'documented' the false information with references to offical records.
I've mailed the person who seems to be responsible for all this, but got no answer.
Recieved an up date to 8319 today and installed. problem now when i try to sync error message This Project contains duplicate records. To avoid such duplication on your on line tree this project cannot be synced. Contact Support. Contacted support and was advised to make a winzip file of My Heritage from my pc. given 2 alternatives. problem the winzip is 8.27gb and nieith options can take that amount of data back to support. replied to support email with this innformation. awaiting reply. Anyone else find this problem ?? and get a solution....
Recently ran a relationship report. Found about a page and a half of unknown names at end that are not relatives. Do not know where they came from and cannot find them if I search. How do I get rid of them?
How often is this list updated ?? just by chance came across one of my members having " visited 26 days ago " except there is no record of it. Can someone explain ? Her visit is listed in the "site members" list Will unregistered visitors be able to "copy" my research ?
I read in a Texas history book that Mildred Delany was mother of Cornelius and Martha A.C. Henley, Isaac Delaney married the widow Mildred Henley. This shows Mildred born Henley But I cannot find birth Records to prove either way. Both were suppose to be born in Virginia. Same year and seems to be in Texas same year.
Is there any help you can give me, Really wanted Henley tree.
I really appreaciate the look of new gallery, but I have some problem with the original default album.
In old gallery all new uploaded photos were stored in default album, which I renamed and used as a album of deceased people. All the other type of photos I moved (not copy but moved) to other albums (for example "Living people", "Places and Buildings", "Unknown people", "Newspaper articles", "Graves" etc.). So every photo was stored only in one album.
In the new gallery, I still see, that all new uploaded photos are stored in the default album, but the default album is not in list of albums, I cannot access it and modify it, and I am not able to move the photos to other albums, I can only copy them there.
So now all my new uploaded photos are in two places in appropriate album, but also in default album, dedicated to deceased people. All the older photos uploaded before the change, are only in one album, according my intention. And what is really strange is, that I can see and access the original default album via the mobile application of My Heritage. But I am not able to move pictures to another album in mobile application.
It is a little bit mass now for my photo sorting, and I would by glad, if you can somehow consistently solve it.
This is a general post to answer your questions about when you will get results from uploading your autsomal DNA data to your profiles.
The first stage of the DNA matching service is giving our users the ability to upload their raw data to their profiles.
The second stage is the actual matching of DNA data between our users. This requires additional time in order to make sure that we have enough DNA files in order to start finding matches as the chance to find a relative (match) in our database will grow.
Hereby a first glimpse at our DNA Matching center, coming soon:
We're very excited about the new DNA Matching and we are currently at the first stage. And the more people use it, the better the results will be for everyone! A huge number of users have already taken advantage of this since we first announced it a few weeks ago.
DNA and traditional genealogy methods, such as family trees and historical records, go hand in hand. DNA can sometimes help where traditional research encounters a dead end, while traditional genealogy is often required to pinpoint an exact relationship path discovered by DNA.
Enhancing your family tree with DNA results can lead to new discoveries. With the new DNA Matching tool, allowing you to be matched to other people who share DNA with you and are likely related to you. MyHeritage will allow you to review the family trees of your DNA Matches (excluding living people) and filter them by shared surnames or locations to focus on matches that are more relevant to you. Best of all, DNA Matching will be combined with the power of MyHeritage's other technologies — Smart Matching™ and Record Matching — helping you determine the likely relationship path to your DNA Matches and prove or disprove other matches. You will be able to connect with new relatives and collaborate with them.
Further down the road, MyHeritage will provide detailed ethnic and geographic origin reports based on DNA.
There are already many DNA files uploaded and we are receiving more and more each day. Therefore we trust to have the actual Matching Tool up and running in the very near future.
When attempting to access my information on MyHeritage, i began receiving a virus blocked warning from my anti-virus software this morning. No issues last night and a scan does not show any problems. I cannot access the email contact info, nor the phone numbers, hence my posting here.
Great site. Please think about updating the software. When I imported my tree from Family Tree Maker your site automatically changed my last name to my husband's. I never changed my name-and a lot of women don't. And since LBGT marriages are everywhere and some keep their own last names-it makes it confusing for records if a marriage automatically changes a name.
