How about Stupid Matches!!! I just subscribed to MyHeritage and I don't like it at all. What they call record matches aren't records at all. They are just other people's error filled trees! There are hardly any digital images of documents here at all, it seems.
I would never call a tree a record!!!
I was just asked to verify a Smart Match. I rejected it, Oh, it was the same person all right, but all the info was wrong except for name, place and date of birth. Wrong parents. Copied from dozens of other trees on the web.
And MyHeritage thinks they are going to be able to link lines with DNA using all these trees full of false information???
I am becoming hesitant to accept "Person Discoveries."
On too many occasions, after accepting a Person Discovery, I find that it has introduced many inconsistencies into my tree.
I have had all the following occur:
Person living but too old (like hundreds of years old), mother too old to have child (like 95), multiple children with same first name, bride too young (like 10), etc.
Would it be possible to have "Person Discoveries" checked for consistency before they are suggested? Or at least assign a consistency score of some sort to help decide whether or not to accept the Person Discovery.
Anyone who can help me understand the results of my DNA test?
I have done a MyHeritage DNA test, two of my cousins have also done the DNA test (without me knowing). Here's our data;
Myself - male
Cousin 1 - female - cousin on father's side - my dad and her mom are brother and sister. Shared DNA 12,2 % (883,5 cM), shared segments 32 and largest segment 113,2 cM - MyHeritage shows her as 1st cousin which is correct
Cousin 2 - male - cousin on mother's side - my mom and his dad are brother and sister. Shared DNA 6,1 % (441,9 cM), shared segments 19 and largest segment 108,1 cM - MyHeritage shows him as 2nd cousin.
In my humble opinion cousin no. 2 should also say 1st cousin, as he is the son of my mom's brother. Cousin 1 is the daughter of my dad's sister. Same 'distance' from me.
Is there anyone who can explain why cousin 2 has much less shared DNA with me than cousin 1 has? Does this have to do with cousin 1 being from my dad's side of the family and cousin 2 from my mom's side of the family? Or is there a different explanation for this difference?
I am looking for the parents of William Thomas Brooks who was born about 1846 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and died on 17 August 1898 in Pleasanton, Linn, Kansas and was married to Malissa Jane Norman born on 12 March 1855 in Ohio.According to the 1880 census William Thomas Brooks lived in Gridley, McLean, Illinois, United States: William P Brooks, "United States Census, 1880"
Is there a way to sort the Smart Matches by a particular section of my tree? I am getting over 2000 matches from the high end (oldest generations) of my side of the family. I am trying to work on my wife's side but I can't figure out how far into the 2000 results hers start. It's very frustrating because I can only load more results by continuing to scroll to the bottom.
I have not received an email notifications. For a long time, they sent me an email notifications and suddenly they stopped. What happened? How can I fix it? Below I send pictures that I have everything set up correct.
Hello, over last half a year I was building my tree with the help of smart matches...
However, they stopped coming through.
I havent disabled them and I still have many pending ones however uncofirmed as they are not bringing any additional information.
Many people in my tree already exist in trees of other people with lots of incremental information. I can see it when I press „search records“ for a given person. But the system fails to discover them (despite same and exact birth and death dates, same names of the parents, etc.
My subscripton includes smart matches only. I was recently bombarded with offer to upgrade subscription to include record marches as well. I didnt take it and since then smart matches stopped coming through... i hope I am not right and it is not myheritage money making machine trying to force me to buy record match subscription... but it seems a bit too much than a coincidence, unfortunatelly... :(
I am the manager of 3 sites, 1 paid and 2 free (4 DNA kits). If I do a "Matches by source" on either of the free sites, among all the 200-500 sources and 1000's of matches are 100 plus My heritage sites listed in the results; also Geni, and Family search come up. When I do the same "Matches by source" with the same trees on my paid site, I get zero My Heritage sites and less than 1/5th and 1/10 of the sources and 1/2 the matches. This is true for both trees related to the free sites. My tree, (only on my paid site) receives My heritage sites in my results. In other words, the same trees on the free sites has different results than the same trees on my paid site. Why is that?
I could suggest it is an inducment to pay for a subscription, as the results usually can't be opened, just a splash screen appears suggesting you upgrade, but why do the results change, and in my opinion, are less worthwhile after paying? Or is this just a limiting factor of having a tree on both sites.
My next step is to cancel the free sites unles I am missing something.
You are allowed more than 1 tree on your site, and I am under the "unlimited" number on my paid site. The trees on the free sites contain the same people, except smaller, as the free site limits trees to 250.
Any insight would be appreciated.
