I have three dna kits on file: mine, my aunt's, and her son, my cousin. When I compare mine to my aunt's, it correctly identifies her as my aunt. When I compare my cousin's to my aunt's, it correctly identifies her as his mother. However, when I compare mine to my cousin's it identifies me as his mother also. Furthermore, the statistics it provides with this comparison are identical to those it gives for the comparison of my cousin to my aunt. This seems impossible. Can you explain it? I have tried this multiple times, just to make sure there is no mistake on my part. I have even uploaded additional copies of my dna, in case somehow it was the wrong file. All copies have the same behavior.
I would like to see a feature that allows current location names to be tied to past location names so they will display on the map. For example, I have ancestors that have lived in the same town for at least 300 years. That town has been under the control of multiple nations during that time. When I enter a person's birth, marriage, and death information I like to use the name of the location as it was when the event occurred. My ancestor's village has been a part of the Kingdom of Poland, the Empire of Austria, the Empire of Russia, the Empire of Austria, the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Republic of Poland, the German Reich, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, and Ukraine in the last 300 years. It does not seem logical to me to say that so-and-so was born in "Town X, Ukraine" when Ukraine did not exist as a nation when the event occurred. I have a recently deceased relative that was born in Poland, lived in the German Reich, got married in the Soviet Union, and died in Ukraine without ever leaving her village. I would like to include that information in her profile and have it appear on the map.
When I click on DNA button on the top, the round pink button says I have 604 matches. When I click on the round pink button to see the list, above the list states that I have 603 matches. When I sort the list to see the newest matches, above the list states that I have 602. The more I click, more I lose matches. :D
As a webmaster I would like to have more control over changes in my trees. Currently I see that a member changed 30 persons details in a tree and added 12 persons to a tree, but I cannot view the changes. I would like to see what exactly has been changed and eventually revert some changes... That would be awesome.
1. It would be awesome to generate a chart with all persons with the same Surname. Ideally I would like to choose which persons should be in a tree. That's more general solution.
2. I would like to generate some very compact chart. It could be only text formatted in a way that we could see the relations. A very simple example would be an indented list. Currently if I want to print a chart with 100 persons i takes LOT of space to print it. With a text chart it would take maybe 2 A4 papers. Something like this is currently implemented on geneanet.org page.
It would be helpful to have a dna raw data file specification for successful uploads. Instead of putting files in a queue to be looked at later, many users are able to modify text files - getting rid of confusing headers, adding column names, reformatting as csv, and perhaps even limiting information to the data needed and not lots of health related or unused data.
I rarely visit your site, mainly because you don't make a pedigree view available.
I know I don't stand alone in this, please make a pedigree view possible for the family tree view. (not just through DNA matches) I guarantee you will have more people using your site.
When an e-mail arrives with a MyHeritage Person Discovery, the resulting web page offers one choice: to say whether the person is the same as in your own tree. Upon clicking 'yes', then the only choice is to blindly merge the other user's tree branch into your tree. Who would ever want to do that! We need an option to go and view/inspect the discovered tree, and perhaps contact the owner. Blindly merging the branch would often result in duplications and would potentially bring in poorly researched and poorly verified data.
Perhaps I haven't found it yet, but why isn't there a way to select a pedigree chart view of a tree, similar to the pedigree chart available on the DNA matches page? I understand that I can request a printed chart, but I'd really like to just have the option to flip between the standard view of a tree and a pedigree view.
when searching for a name that has letters with the letters listed below and if that letter happend to be in the name the search will result with nothing even if that name is in your tree
Sample search noe and if in your tree it is spell noé the person will not show the same is true for noel noël
etc the same for all other type of name containing french letter listed below and this can make you make mistake and you have to make manual search and on this type of tree view this is time consuming
suggestion when searching for a name containing any of the letters below when typing the simple english letter should still bring the name
Hope this get fix asap.
The cédille (cedilla) Ç ...
The accent aigu (acute accent) é ...
The accent circonflexe (circumflex) â, ê, î, ô, û ...
My ethnicty is Gujurati Indian , however the my heritage results just shows south asian and does not break it down further.
When uploading my DNA to Harappa word I get a further break down 56% Indian, 33% Baloch, 3.21% caucasian, 1.45% NE european, 2.12 % SE Asian,1.02 NE easian, 1.14% Papuan, 1.25% American , 1.07% SW asian.
pundtDNAL K13 admixture also gives similar results 28% West asian, 4.69% NE european, South asia 58%, SE asian 4.11% , Oceania 1.93%.
I think adding these further groups would be more helpful for people with south asian backgrounds.
Might have to look to Google or some other mapping tool provider.
I think it might be interesting to take a point/person on a web-based family tree member, back track names/birth dates/birth locations determine age time frames from death dates/locations and very advanced, include residence/immigration info back to oldest entries for that ancestry and plot those dates/locations on a global map as they progress forward to the family tree member selected.
Show icons in a color spectrum across that date range, maybe phase icons in/out based upon those birth/death dates.
Control display speed via a slider bar to control migration through time.
I think it would be interesting for members to be able to show migration sources/paths from earliest dates discovered to selected persons period.
I think it would be helpful to have a way to export that data for individuals to perhaps develop such a capability.
Good Morning, my name is Roberto and I am writing you regarding my DNA test experience which I hope you can keep in mind,
I found out that most of my genetics proudly comes from the Iberian Peninsula, the reason why I am writing you it’s because I felt disappointed with the short historical explanation that you give about the Iberian Peninsula.
I am a teacher specialized in history, I felt really disappointed when I read about the Iberian Peninsula negative description about the expulsion of the Jews in 1492 as ifthat event was the most remarkable event of the history of Spain and Portugal which I think is pure PROPAGANDA.
Let me tell you that France and England expulsed the Jews with much more cruelty and centuries sooner than Spain did. France did it since 1182 A.D. and England since 1290, or the territories of the Holy Roman Empire since 1348. Why when you describe the whole Iberian Peninsula you have highlighted that event when in Europe was made sooner and worse than Spain? and more brutally?!.
I have to say with all respect that a description of the history of the Iberian Peninsula can be made short, easy and funny if you wish, but please, it seems that you picked that description from a Wikipedia pamphlet which shows a total lack of interest and disrespect version against the history of my nation and the Portuguese nation.
I think you should seek advice by a proper historian because the descriptions that you give about Europe, in general, are based on cliches and a complete ignorance about the diversity of those countries, for example when you talk about the northwestern Europe area you mix that the western civilization with achievements made in Northern Europe and the Catholic church was created there and the exquisite food and wines are remarkable in that area. With all respect, but the pillars of the western civilization comes from Ancient Greece and Rome (Greco-Roman culture), then the Catholic church was born in Palestine and its see is placed in Rome (southern Europe). Northern Europe and Southern Europe are pretty different, especially in lifestyle, food, and wines.
Spain was in the 13Th century one of the best places to live in Europe for the Jews and they also experienced a great economic growth in Spain because England and France were the first countries that persecuted and expulsed Jews, later Germany and some parts of Italy.
The historical background of that negative event that we are not able to understand it with the actual mind of today, it is a common mistake of the people of today, if you are unable to understand the historical background or context of the 16th century way of thinking you will not understand the past nor even the present, therefore despite that the expulsion of the jews in Europe and Spain was something really bad (I agree), the whole Europe carried out those actions as well, therefore it is unfair that the Spaniards are the only blamed in Europe regarding your description.
Spanish history is full of prejudices and propaganda made by the enemies of Spain. In many films, Spain is seen asan intolerant “catholic” country with the terrible “Spanish Inquisition” (The Inquisition was invented in France by the way...), so nothing could be further from the truth. Let me recommend you some books such as the tree of hate by Phillip Wayne Powell who was written by an American and professor from California or scholars like Darío Fernandez Morera professor of Harvard University and you can have a better idea about Spanish history without prejudices or propaganda.
I recommended the test to my other family members and friends however after this insulting description I won’t be able to recommend your DNA test any more because I have seen that other companies such as Ancestry.com treat the history of my country with much more respect and accurateness than yours.
I don’t want to sound upset, however I would like to let you know how I feel about it and I would like to encourage you to revise that description.
I really appreciate your time for reading my letter and I apologised in advance if I sound a bit harsh, however I felt the necessity of saying something because as I have said before, I don´t like when someone mess and spread negative propaganda of my nation which is one of the five most important nations that have more contributed to universal history, therefore it shouldn't be described with those prejudices and lack of knowledge.
Hi, I have been using the free version of Myheritage, both the web and the mobile version, for few years now. I am from Malaysia. I found Myheritage as an excellent tool to build my family tree. My family likes the simple way of building a complete family tree with all the details we used to keep in books, files and albums. In fact, most of the information were kept by the smaller families as we are living seperately and far from each other.
While the tool is widely use in the USA, Europe and most of the English spoken and Western countries, it is still very new in my country. Probably we are not used to keeping our heritage the way you all do it. Or perhaps, many of us do not use English as our main language. I would like to suggest Myheritage in the Malaysian/Indonesian language and customize it to the local way of keeping family heritage.
Does anyone know how to get to these forums from the family site - I caanot find a link in any of the menus - seems to suggest that MH doesn't care about them any more. New members won't even know they exist?
1) There is a pedigree veiw of trees. This is critical with DNA matching.
2) I can easily link a dna test to someone in a tree. Clearly there is a way but where in the heck is it? I only gives me the option to upload DNA for a particular person. I uploaded the DNA already. How in the heck to I attach it?
3) It should be easy to merge two trees without downloading, editiing, and then uploading. I don't even know how I ended up with two seperate tress.
4) I want to see all women with maiden names only. I see this in settings, I change it, but I still see married names. Maddening. Nowhere else in the world of genealogy do we use married names for women.
Please, please give us the option of changing to a pedigree view. Those of us who are hard core family history enthusiasts have been working with the pedigree view for years, in my case 50 years. Having everyone spread out when you have a tree of several thousand is unwieldy and difficult to follow.
I know a lot of people who are like me who won't make the best use of you site because they cannot get a pedigree view.
If we could get a pedigree view I would put several trees on the system, since I work on my own and several for other people as well.
In FTB on my PC it is possible to access the family statistics of a specific online tree managed by myself. Won't it be possible to provide the utillity to provide the family statistics of the data in my FTB tree on my PC without being connected to the Internet? I think it will add value to FTB if it is possible to view/print statistical reports also.
I'm frustrated with the inefficient way the program checks for duplicates. How is it efficient to click between 2 possible duplicates and decide which one is correct. Why can't it be like Ancestry or other sites; check for duplicates and merge them in the same window? Why can't it be like that? It would be so much more efficient that way.
To edit photos from a search, link to photo editing software. Have a dropdown at the online site from Family tree/My photos/More Options where you can open a window where one can type in the path to do to the software.
