I have just found out that my ggg grandfather's wedding announcement says he was engaged 7yrs. Marriage 1812 so he waited since 1805.... This was the beginning of the Napoleonic Wars. Is there any way I can find out whether or not he served in the military? Here's hoping
First, I use MyHeritage for 3 weeks and I like it a lot, especiaally thier superb simple interface (there is no stupid icons, but WORDS).
It seems however that MyHer. gets the matches using existing personal trees without checking what they offer. I got
the match of Helmold II von Luneborg /Tuvi Palnissun and offered as new information the name of his wife, Sophia von Pleskau.
But she was already in my tree as the wife of Theodoricus De Ropa and that info I got from MyHeritage and Geni.com.
The opinions of who's wife is she are different, as well as the info who was their son (WOldemat von Rosen or Waldemar von Rosen - 2 different people). If anyone has some solid knowledge about this matter I will love to hear it.
The most common mistake in census records, the spelling of names, keeps the Anton Geppert family incognito. In this case the census taker spelled the head of household surname “Keppart”and the first name “Antone”. Most likely the census taker wrote down the names of the head of household based on what he heard said. Now I know the spelling errors, and my citation will note the same for the person in question. Anyone reading our Geppert family tree branch in the future and looking at my research would know what I had found and why. Census records are a source for primary citations. Census records are great for finding facts about your people and, helping to confirm information found in other sources. What if anything can I do within My Heritage to aid the next person searching the Illinois US census 1870 for the Anton Geppert family? Pete

I can't understand why the program is not finding people that I have put on Wiki Tree. Even if I put the search as there only it isn't even finding my father or my grandparents that I have fullinfo input on here. Also this screen is so very hard to read. I have canged my settings on my computer but the screens such as this one hear are really hard for me to read with the small light text. Is there an adjustment I can make that I am missing? Please help this is very frustrating
I've stumbled upon something and I am not quite sure what to make of it. I am a genealogy novice, so forgive me if this is common knowledge to others.
When looking at Ohio birth records there is often a "note" which seems to be the mother's maiden name in most cases. When looking up my mother's birth record the note instead says "~akea" and on my grandfather's the note reads "ordal"
I wasn't sure what to make of this, so I played around with it a bit and searched Ohio birth records from 1954 with "akea" listed as the mother's last name. I then did the with 1917 records and "ordal" as the mother's name. There are literally dozens of each entry.
Can anyone tell me what these 2 notations mean? I've tried internet searches and am finding nothing of any relevance.
Hi, I am looking for birth registers and municipal records between 1875 to 1880 as I search for the birth register or certificate of my great-grandfather Frank Labonville born May 12, 1877 in Oscoda, Iosco, Michigan.
Frank Labonville was born on 12 May 1877 in Oscoda, Iosco, Michigan, United States and died on 19 Aug 1963 in St-Agapit, Lotbinière, Québec, Canada at age 86. Other names for Frank were Francis, Labonefield, and Rabounville. His parants are Francis Labonville and Clarisse Dubois. Other names for Clarisse were Clarise Dubois, Clarise Dubore, Clarie Labonefield, and Annie Wood. I think I found everything that was available on ancestry.com and familysearch.org. But on this last site, I found some microfilm that could contain other information but they can not be viewed online and they are not indexed.
I am trying your site. When I have specific information, date of birth, place, date of death, place, name. Why does 80,000 people come up in the search? Some with different cities and names than the specific name I used and state.
While I've been using the free trial, I have found some new information that wasn't recorded on the web version of some documents (i.e. immigration records, census records) as well as some typographical errors when the information was made electronic. Is there a way to suggest an edit onto the electronic copy of the documents?
For example, while looking at immigration logs for one of my ancestors, I noticed that her brother and sister were also on the same log, but that is not included on the web information as it is often on other documents. Another example is when transposing the text from some census records, the handwriting caused some translation errors. Siberia became Liberia, even though on future census materials it's listed as Siberia as well. The handwriting SAYS Siberia, but whomever typed it up wrote the wrong word.
I have looked all over and clicked, etc. etc. My father, John Howell Brame, died 25 April 2015. (His birthday is 25 December 1929) How do I add a death date to his profile. I can't seem to find anything that will let me edit or add to his profile.
