I RECEIVED A MESSAGE YESTERDAY ON FAMILY BUILDER TO SAY MY TREE WAS 'LOST' AND TO CONTACT SUPPORT. MY WHOLE TREE HAS BEEN 'LOST' FROM THE WEBSITE AS WELL SO i HAVE ABSOUTELY NOTHING TO VIEW. I HAVE SENT TWO E-MAILS AND ALTHOUGH IT SAYS MY COMPLAINT WILL BE PRIORITY I AM STILL WAITING FOR AN ANSWER.
WTF has happened with Ver 8? I have gone from a reasonably content user to one who is pulling his hair out in frustration. If I manage to load a Project, it does not save so I have to then save a new Gedcom, backup on line and backup on my computer. 90% of the time I am unable to Sync (upload or download), or unable to load a saved backup. I now have so many Projects I do not know what is what.
Customer support is an oxymoron; no reply for over one month apart from the automated reply. What else is out there that actually works?
I am a Premium Plus member for the past 6 years and I sent a complaint 9 days ago to the helpdesk under Ticket # 2016100410008007 but to date nobody has replied to my issue.
I am entering death information and burial informantion. I go back to enter more information and the death info has disappeared and in some cases also the burial info - also and extra line in the facts has been added that I cannot delete.
I am in the main a daily user and this issue has become so frustrating I am thinking of looking for another software to transfer my family tree to. The fact that in 9 days nobody from the help desk has contacted me also has left me with a sour taste
How do I see all the people in my tree. I have 232 people but when the tree opend, I only see 29. Once I see the complete tree I want to export the file. I can't do this until the entire family appears.
I am a new user of My Heritage, but have been doing family history for many years. I use Legacy Family Tree as my desktop software and regularly export a gedcom from there to my own website.
As I have over 9000 people in my tree, I decided to let My Heritage convert my Legacy file to a gedcom and import it into Family Tree Builder, which included many photos. The most annoying thing that happened was that My Heritage associated all my photos with every event in the person's life, so I have multiple copies of the same photo on Photo View.
Do I have to manually go through all these photos and disassociate them from the events?
When creating an ancestor report, I consistently get a bug that gives incorrect spacing between the words.
For examlpe, I cut-and-pasted this from the report :
Anne Agate [Martin] was born in 1935 in Hastings,
which looks fine here, but in the original the space after martin] does not appear to be there.
I think the problem is in the spacing of the bold font - in some places in the report, whole words get overwritten. I would change the size of the font, but the "report options" menu item is greyed out and inactive). I am using FTB version 188.8.131.5233
I have attached a jpeg, so you can see that I am not imagining it. Note also the wrong spacing next to person 14 after 'married'.
This is to aware My Heritage users community about privacy incidents you may face and to call My Heritage company to make investigation on privacy incident(s) of MH ONLINE tree privacy settings unintentional changes.
Having learned that MyHeritage historical search does not treat private information properly, I have choosen not to include my family tree into historical search engine and disabled SmartMatching.
However I have faced three times the incident on unintentional changes of family tree content privacy settings, overriding of my selected preferency settings.
First time I was thinking that I was not careful enough. Second time I could not believe my eyes. I started to monitor when it will happen next time. Today I have connected to my tree 19:50 (UTC 2) today and I have identified that my tree content privacy setting are changed again.
MH users, be carefull and let us see if and how MH will solve this incident.
When do you expect Advanced search tab to appear under the search. I'm still using version 7.x.x because this tab can be found in this previous version.
I find it strange, that this option is missing in version 8.x.x
My Hertitage screens and removes all negative posts on Facebook if you post as a new topic to them on their page.
Scroll down on their FB page and pick any pre existing post and then post your concerns as a comment or a reply. For example there was a post today about the new Pedigree Map feature. I was able to leave a comment asking them to fix the older problems before adding new stuff. Just use comment, like and reply and share. We know the complaints are out there yet they keep promoting, selling, and ignoring. That offends me greatly. This will make the compliants visible for a while at least.
In all the previous versions of FTB, we were able to search individuals not only doing a basic search but also using the advanced search tab. It is the only way I know to search in the notes.
It seems this as disappeared, as the thread of the forum talking about that (maybe more than 6 months). Any news ?
Adding that in version 7, "specials" characters in French (letters é è ê à ...) are not found by the search, and it is probably the same for a lot of other languages. This is not impacting so much English users, but when they have to write foreign names of people or cities...
I am happy not to have moved to FTB 8, but I hope some good changes will be done in the next future.
A huge number of people on the FTBuilder forum are complaining about problems with FTB 8 and that they get a canned "form" letters or do not get any response at all to their help request. This is not right. A Premium My Heritage account is on the upper end of cost of all of the Genealogy sites and I am good with that so long as I am getting a product that works as advertised. It is not OK for customers to spend thousands of hours on ones family tree data only to have it corrupted by trusting you and upgrading to a faulty product ie FTB 8. Then you not having a help system that is robust enough to deal with all of the complaints is a double slap in the face to your customers. I have a standard off the self desk top computer with the standard windows 10 no fancy stuff at all. Your product should be able to deal with that without issues yet it dose not for many people. On this FB forum you present only cutesy stuff to sell product. How about giving some reassuring advise on how to deal with universal problem issues with your product in order to retain customers that are so frustrated that they are ready to bail out on you. I will not renew if I can not upgrade flawlessly with a few clicks like I can do with an other service.
I would like to install FTB 8 in a seperate way or folder to be able to test it without deleating my FTB 7. Is there a smart computer person out there that could explain how to do that if it is possible.
I recently updated to FTB 8 and it was a complete fail. Among other things, All of my photo tags were GONE and photo profiles would not display in Tree View. I returned to FTB 7, synced and got all of my tags back in on-line. But now I have a duplicate untagged copy of all of my photos in the on-line site. So far the only way I have found to deleate the duplicates is to individually open and delete over 2000 times!!! Is there another way? I got no answer doing a trouble ticket.
Let me start by saying I was one of many that upgraded to vs8.0, which caused me major headaches. After many days and attempts, I was finally able to get my tree and data back into 7.0. However, I am now having an issue when I try to run a report within vs 7. The process gets about half through when I receive an error stating the GEDCOM file does not exist. I thought by save the database a report could be generated. I never ran into this issue using 7.0 before. Did 8.0 mess something up? What do I do to fix it?
Interesting how the "latest version" of Fam Tree Builder ver 8 on Windows shuts down when it can't create the default folder on first run after installation. Is there a command line mode or key sequence that will prevent FTB8 from shutting itself down? I've even tried opening as admistrator. I usually pick my own custom folder for data for a lot of other applications. Why FTB8 does NOT have "custom installation" for this is a bit baffling. Screen shot attached.
Where can i get action on a feature I have requested since V6. Don't tell me to contact support because I got no satisfaction from them.
Following is my request in an email to support, followed by their reply (Useless) :
Some time ago I enquired about changing the default location of the projects directory. I was using V6 at the time. I was told that it was not possible to change the default location permanently and to download V7 which I have just done, but it still won't allow the default location to be permanently changed.
The reason I want to change it is I have all my files on a portable drive for security reasons. Can this be done with V8, if not I would say this is a serious flaw in the program.
If the layout of the Names, dates, female maiden names can be set, why not the default project location?
Hoping this serious flaw is fixed in V8. I will not be downloading this latest version if it isn't. Do you have a reason for this oversight?
And their reply :
Thank you for contacting us, I will be happy to assist you.
No this feature is still not available.
I apologize for the inconvenience.
Should you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Can i goto to the top for a resolution to this problem. There appear to be no links to the top man.
I have come across a problem in the facts in FTB. In the "Religion" fact type, it is not possible to record the actual religion in the "description" field - it will not save. So the "description" becomes blank if you click "save" and then re-open. I have gotten around this by using the "Church" fact type instead of "Religion".
I upgraded myheritage family tree to version 8. I had issues with downloading but got it to upgrade finally then when I tried to load my project, it keeps saying failed to open project please contact my heritage if problem persists. So then I tried to restore from file on my computer and it also did not work. Then I tried to restore from my site and it says it was not downloaded successfully. Not sure what I should do now, just contact support?
In previous versions of Family Tree Builder (pre Version 8) I could easily merge two trees by importing one into the other as Gedcom files. I am now informed that this facility is not currently available in Version 8, which is a real pain in the backside. What I want to know is, when will it be available again?
I started my tree with my 3rd great grandfather and later expanded to my 6th great granfather. My problem is when i what to print my tree it prints fom great grandfather #6 to #4 then I have to start printing again and this doesn't keep the generations correctly.
