I wanted to make a list of all couples in my tree to see which pairs had data missing in marrige dates and places. I ended up with a list of people in ID order and imported it to excel and started to match them togeather. Now after several days of work I find that after a restart of FTB the IDs do not match any more, they have been packed. I remember I had removed one duplett person and now I have 17175 people in my tree and last ID is 17175.
IDs must be static. How can I otherwice be sure that I pick the correct Unknown person among the 100s I have in tree where most have no other data? I have also several persons with the same name and no more data.
There are fore sure hidden static IDs in the database otherwice it would not work. So what use is the ID we see but can not change, but will be changed by the system whenever we delete people in the tree?
According to a blog post dated 11th dec 2015 there will be a release of ver 8 early this year. There is a Beta ver 8, available for power users to test. Maybe that is what you downloaded. This would also explain why you dont have any information about it and no help files.
Thanks for your comments. If you sign in to MH and scroll to the bottom of the page there is a column headed 'APPS'. In that column is a line headed 'Family Tree Builder' and if you click on that line you are taken to the download page of FTB. The version that you are given when you hit the 'Free Download' button is '8171'. There is no other option available to you to download any other version.
I have used this method to upgrade my previous versions of FTB for the last 5 years. If, as it seems correct that I now have the Beta version, I need to know from MH why I have got it as I am not one of the Power Users to test Beta versions. If others who use the above method to download a version see the V7 one, how come I see V8?
I do the same as you, but I have the page https://www.myheritage.se/family-tree-builder and maybe it is my Swedish page that point to 7.143 and MH screwed up and missed the update for some other languages (I.E .se) or missed and exposed the beta on your page.
I have entered email addresses in the spot for email addresses in the Main information for each member on the tree. I want to display this on the charts generated. What field should I enable to display the email address on the charts? I can't find the field for email addresses to be enabled. Can anyone shed any light?
Hope you can help me with a problem I have of showing a female relatiives surnames correctly.
Before her first marriage she was a Brown, after marriage she became a Smith. I've entered this data into her proifle under the respective fields and all is well. Then, when I add another spouse and she changes her married name to Green and I add this in as her married name FTB shows her as a Green in her first marriage. Obvious realy as there only appears to be one field for married name, similarly for maiden name.
Is there any way round this issue so that she can be shown progressively changing her surname?
This is what I do and it seems to work fine (although I was told it would take up too much data or something);
I enter her in the tree as Mary Brown, and to do that I have to have her parents John Brown and Alice brown in the tree.
Then she gets married and I 'add spouse' Alec Smith and unless you have set the settings differently she now appears as
Mary Smith [Brown]. If she just shows as Mary Smith right click on her 'card', left click on edit details and insert her 'maiden name' ...
Then she gets divorced and I right click in the long space under the individuals (the bit about marriage and such) and left click on the arrow to the right of the bottom line, "Status", and select 'divorced'.
There seems to be no place for the divorce details so I will probably note the details on her OWN 'card and maybe his....
Okay. she marries Allan Green. Right click in her 'card', select 'spouses', and 'add spouse'. You will get a warning, 'do you really want to...' and you click 'yes'.
Fill in his details in his card as usual. SHE MAY now show as Mary Brown, we may have confused the system.
THEN, right click in her card, and select 'edit details' and you will get the 'main' tab.
Leave her maiden name as Brown (of course);
and for married name insert Green (formerly Smith).
When I installed build 7143 on WIndows 7 on my desktop computer, I noticed two new icons in the top RH corner of the window, to the left of the standard "Minimize", "Maximize" and "Close" icons. These two new icons are to "Open Virtual Keyboard" and "Help".
However, on Windows 10 the two new icons are superimposed on the "Minimize" and "Maximize" icons. This makes minimizing quite difficult - I either have to fiddle with the mouse pointer over the icon until the "Minimize" tip is shown before clicking, or right-click on the top border then select "Minimize". I would guess it's even more difficult on a tablet without a mouse.
