Some years ago, I reported this bug. Have downloaded new version 8.0, but it is still there.
In FTB, when merging from a smart match, step-by-step merge, when merging person for data other than death and birth (e.g. "burial"), and click on "take the deatils from the other site", the date does not copy from the other site, and has to be retyped.
Help!!! I can't open my family tree! I only have the personal tree (database) on my home computer, not the one online. What happened is ... I've been having trouble with my Windows Vista computer freezing up lately, and it did it again today. The screen freezes, the mouse won't work, neither does hitting CTRL-ATL-DEL on the keyboard. So in order to "unstick" it, I've been turning the computer off in the middle of the freeze by pressing the off button on my APC unit on the floor where everything's plugged in. Then when I turn it (APC) back on, only then do I have access to press the on button at the tower. (I may not be saying this right, so I hope you understand.) Anyway...when I tried to call up my family tree again, the wizard said it couldn't open it due to an "error." I have other GED files (partial databases) on this computer that open up just fine with the MyHeritage software. It's just the MAIN database of over 3,000 names that won't open now. Of course, this was the one onscreen when the freeze occurred. Have I lost all my work?!! Can anybody help pleeeeeeeeez...?!
The file is probably corrupted. I hope you had the backup option on. If so, in Family Tree Builder, go to 'File' > 'Restore Project', find the last Backup before the problem, click 'Next' a few times and 'Finish'.
For safety, you can before doing this: Open Family Tree Builder, go to 'File' > 'Manage Projects', select your project and click 'Go To Folder'. Copy all the folder to a secure place, for example to a usb stick.
I hope to have helped,
P.S. The computer could die at any time, backup regularly all other important files too.
Thanks, Antoine! You helped me get my family tree back! Thankfully, I DID have my autobackup on and was able to recover my tree, minus about 12 changes I'd made on the file that became corrupted. (I can live with that!) I've also now backed up to a flash drive as well as to an external hard drive. Thanks for taking the time to help...
I have tried several times during the past week or so to download the Family Tree Builder to my desktop and each time when the download is almost complete I receive a message the download failed. I have it installed on my laptop and my desktop at my main residence as well as on my tablet. I have never encountered a problem before. I am running Windows 7.
If you are still experiencing this issue, please be sure to contact us at email@example.com. This will allow us to personally assist you and investigate every issue on its own - this maybe occurring due to various different reasons (operating systems, anti virus etc.) and we need to investigate each case separately.
Similarly for me. However I don't get a message. I go into my downloads and the FTB file says it is a .part file only. Trying to open it by removing the .Part says the file is incomplete. I would have tried around 20 times -always the same ending.
HI. I really wanted to see if they had fixed the inability to load the family csv file from EXCEL that was in Ver 7. I'm actually quite happy with Ver 6. So I'm giving it a miss for the moment as I've looked at some of the comments about ver 8.
I'm just getting started with FTB and MyHeritage, so pardon my basic questions. I started out on my PC by installing FTB and importing a GEDCOM file that has a number of photo references, many of which are "personal photos" since they are at the first level below the 0 INDI tag.
FTB successfully imported my file along with the photos, but even though the photos are associated with the correct people, they do not show up as "personal photos" in the tree view, and I can't figure out how to get them there. If I click on Add Personal Photo in the tree view, I get a dialog wanting to browse for a file to import. On the Photos view for the person, the correct photo is there, but there doesn't seem to be an option to select that photo as the personal photo!
So how can this be done? And in any case, if I have to do this for each person with a photo, it will be a tedious process. Seems like it should have been done automatically by the GEDCOM import.
GEDCOM, an acronym for GEnealogical Data COMmunication, is a specification for exchanging genealogical data between different genealogy softwares. A GEDCOM file is the most widely recognized file format standard for creating a family tree. Most genealogical programs recognize this format, which allows you to easily move your tree to the genealogical program of your choosing.
Note: A GEDCOM file is a text file, that doesn't include the actual photos but it may contain the links to the photos original location on your computer or family site.
Therefore you will need to manually re-attach the photos from your computers location to the profile cards of the individuals.
Please read my post again. The Family Tree Builder program on my PC did read my GEDCOM file and it did bring in the photos that were linked from the GEDCOM file using OBJE tags. FTB does have my photos and I can view them from the Photos tab and all that. It is just that I am unable to view the photo that belongs to an individual and make it the official "personal photo" for that person.
I do understand that if I upload a GEDCOM file directly to the web site, there is no way for the photos to be uploaded along with it. But this is all a moot point since I had so many issues with FTB and trying to sync with the web site that I removed FTB from my PC and am just working on the site.
In a case where there are 2 spouses, the ex-wife appears with the ex-husband. I want the current spouse to show with the current husband. I followed the instructions in the user's guide, that is, in "edit" I changed the sequence, moving the ex-wife into the 2nd position and the current spouse into the 1st position, clicked OK, and nothing happened. It reverted back to the sequence with the ex-wife in the 1st position. Am I doing something wrong?
I added a custom fact - Marriage. I associate the scanned document with the correct person and then associate the marriage fact but the image doesn't show up as it does for birth and death... any suggestions?
I have just downloaded FTB 8. After the new project is created I get no possibility to add any family to the project. The add family bock after the new project is created does not appear either. When I try to reopen the newly created project I find no ftb file in the folders which can be opened. I used the previous version before, all worked well.
