No help! Even a novice of my caliber can delete a photo or even an album.
You obviously didn't see the word "duplicate" in my posting.
Didn't the designers and/or coders of this otherwise fine product realize that we mere mortals would at times make dumb mistakes such as mine and provide for us a "search and delete" function for duplicates?
If such foresight and special encoding truly is not present, then that should be corrected soon. When I first enrolled I mentally gave you a Five-Star rating. I'm afraid the stars are losing their luster.
It would appear that you are experiencing duplicated photos due to the fact that you have duplicated family trees within your family site.
Therfore you will need to enter into your family site and decide which of the family trees is the most up to date and delete the ones that are unnecessary. All trees that you have within one family site that have photos are shown in the one photo section of your family site.
The following link will provide you with the necessary instructions for the tree deletion.
I have started 2 new trees which have basically split my family tree into 2 smaller trees, mainly because it is much easier to work with. However I would like to transfer info from my original family tree to the smaller trees. Is this possible?
Unfortunately at the moment within the FTB software there is no way to merge into family trees. This feature has been disabled tempoorarily whilst the development team work on improving its performance.
We apologize for this inconvenience and hope to have this back in the near future,
When I started my first family-wide site I added photos one by one, scanning a stack of old family snapshots. Fine!
Now I am creating new more directed sites and want to add some of those photos from the first site. I don't want to scan them again. I did not save the original scans to my computer so I assume they are stored in a file with my site..? From that first site I can view complete albums with the photos I need.
How can I access those original albums from the newer sites? Probably a simple answer for you "old timers" but my history with you began in January.
Just received an "invitation" by a member of My Heritage on my personal email. I did not accept nor followed the link. When I went to my homepage I found that I apparently already accepted the invitation ?? I would like to "research" this other family site first as I had never seen the name before. There also is no opportunity to "decline" the invitation. Has anyone come across this involuntary acceptance of an invitation ??
Hi Remo, thanks for the suggestion how to "leave" a site one no longer wants to be a member of. Fairly simple steps.
It would have been great to have had the choice to accept or decline the invitation. Better yet to have a way to look up the site/person inviting before accepting. In my case I had never heard/seen the family name before and am leary to connect with people simply interested in taking your research and starting their site. If they have a site already, I'd be more than willing to share my info. Looking up a Family Site/Site Manager is difficult as they are not listed alphabetically either by last or first name.
However, the problem is not FTB. I have not used FTB to sync to my site for 18 months because sync is unreliable and prone to corrupting the online site. Once I realised that I stop syncing. Also multiple people edit online so FTB editing is not really possible anymore. I only download the site to FTB (yes the latest version). I do not upload or sync. So this is not the source of the problem. It appears to be a change made recently to the online site.
Now I will have to open every biography one at a time and remove the added html code. Opening the biography in the editor removes a lot of the markup language, but not all of it. Things like no-breaking spaces ( ) and quotes and hyphens and apostrophes are all still rendered in html code that needs to be manually removed. Embedded image links are also broken.
I can only presume myHeritage recently made a change to the online software or to the embedded editor.
It is very frustrating how months of work can be destroyed by myHeritage's online site.
MyHeritage was able to identify that when I checked an older copy of my tree it synced with the online site and corrupted my online site. Even though I thought autosync was disabled, opening this file still triggered a sync. I normally never allow FTB to sync because syncing simply can't be trusted.
FTB sync continues to be a problem and corrupt sites. Ever since I have been a member of My Heritage the business has known that syncing is corrupting people’s online work. Yet they appear to have done little about it. The new upgrade to version 8 hasn't solved the problem. If you have multiple online editors or if you predominantly edit online and occasionally edit different records offline, or others edit online and you edit offline, then sync at your own risk. Your records are being changed and data is being lost even if you don't immediately realise it.
Looking through these forums you will see plenty of examples of wrecked sites and lost records and damaged photo albums caused by sync. Never one solution. No obvious attempt to fix the software.
please let me share my current tactic of survival in the not perfect world of MyHeritage.
The first precondition - I cannot rely on MyHeritage (like any other vendor) that my data will be well maintained on the website on MH ONLINE forever. Morever, the MyHeritage offerred online backup services (I have paid for) for your satisfaction acknowledge the backup events, however you cannot restore your data from the backup, it simple does not work. In combination with no support from MyHeritage this is big risk of loosing all your data and all your work.
The only reason I accepted to use MyHeritage - option to have all data locally (FTB project). This is the only way to secure proper data backup and storage. Therefore I consider that my primary data are on FTB project locally and MH ONLINE tree is working copy for collaboration with my relatives.
Right, FTB <> MH ONLINE SYNC is real headake, it destroys data integrity. In combination with no support from MyHeritage it is disaster. To my 1 year experience FTB is doing nothing irreparable with local data, the problems is how these data are uploaded to MH ONLINE.
In this not perfect world of MyHeritage the key for survival is in my hands - local FTB project which I can convert to GEDCOM and switch to other vendor at any time.
Would you please change your browser from Firefox to Google Chrome and try again to view your Pdf document.
I have come across this issue with another user and they too were using Firefox as their browser. When I tested the case here I was able to view their Pdf documents and after mentioning this to the user they also could view them using Google Chrome.
Two weeks ago "Smart Matching" no longer added information or close relatives to my tree upon confirmation. The feature accepts the match as complete but no new information or close relatives are posted to my tree.
After a few emails were exchanged with Tech Support the problem was identified as a "Bug" and my issue was logged.
Today the problem expanded. I can no longer edit or add information to anyone in my tree. When I attempt to do so I get an "Error" message, advising me to "Try again later". This new development has lasted throughout the day.
I use MyHeritage online rather than FTB due to past data loss.
Can anyone advise if there is anything I can do to remedy or work-around these problems?
This is to let myheritage know - that I have had it with your bad helpdesk ad support service. I have now been waiting from Dec / January (... cannot even exactly remember, as it is soooooooooooooo long ago - but I believe it is more than 3 months!!!!) - that I have been waiting to be helped by you. I have sent you various emails and I have also phoned you about 4 or 5 times and no one has helped me yet! Your backup service is not working on my side and I have lost most of my years and years of work and profiles. I have had it all on my own familysite, ( have not been working in myfamilytree buider as far as I know.) I am a premium plus member for many years and I cannot undstand how I am not helped yet - as I am paying good money for this service. Vague answers and promises are just not good enough anymore and I cannot tell you how crosss I am today. I was told various times that someone would phone me back, to take over my computer with viewfinder - to help me to retrieve this January 2016 backup. I also cannot get any ''discoveries'' anymore. Please get in touch with me! I have had various customer support ticket numbers and still no one is fixing my techno problem. My profiles are down tomore or less just over 4000 - where it should be almost 12000! I am extremely upset. My dad is failing in health and I cannot print this for him, which is what I wanted to do all along and your system and suport are now letting me down in doing this for him. I do not have much time left! If this is not solved - I am cancellng my very long subscribtion and I will let everyone know how bad your service to a very old customer has been. I am extemely dissppointed! I am going to the top with this - I am teling you now - solve this matter, or there are going to be ripples all over you! Wilma.
Somebody has mispelled maiden surname of my grandmother, and while all the other info like birth date, death, children etc corespond I would like to let know the other person to correct the spelling. It is obviously the same person.
Also, i just got match from GENI, there they have death date of my grandmotther as 5th February 1888, which is actually her birth, there is no way to correct the data, or notify anybody. There are other informations which I know I have right as I got them from archive entries and other people have them wrong. I just wonder how much can be trusted when people cannot correct obvious nonsence?
Sometimes I see the similar problem. The other person has some wrong/inaccurate data, mispelled surname or some other difference which even causes that such person is not found by SmartMatch. I am 100% sure that it is the same person so I would like to do something like "manual smart match" - the feature which would pair mine and remote person and send info to the remote side that match was found but their data are inaccurate.
Yes the data from GENI do not show anything about the other tree, and there is no contact function. I did contact all the people who had the misspelled name or other detail wrong but they did not respond or fixed it.
