Can someone or anyone suggest a viable workflow technique to insure that no duplicates get added through discoveries? I suppose I could check each entry for a pre-existing record but it seems to me that there should be a better method. Granted it is better than deleting duplicates. I would love to hear of any good method.
I am looking for my great-grandmother’s death date. Her name is Alice Mary (Wise) IVES. She was born in 1869 in Sandhurst, Berkshire, England. She married William Henry Ives in Sandhurst in 1890. They emigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in 1894. In 1898 William remarried and I don’t find any evidence of Alice after her arrival in Canada. I checked Manitoba Vital Statistics and there is no record of her death. Any suggestions?
I have a tree with ~7000 folks in it stretching back to first century BC. I want to push discovery of my direct ancestors back as far as I can go on each branch. But where Ancestry.com offers a pedigree display of direct ancestors only for as far back as my data goes. I cannot find the equivalent in MH or FTB. Instead, with so many people in the tree, it is very ponderous to follow any lineage because the tree is mostly horizontal and very scattered as a result.
Is this a shortcoming in the MH and FTB displays? Or am I overlooking some setting that will present a direct ancestors only view (that is, beyond the self plus three-generations basic pedigree chart I find under Charts).
Is anyone experiencing any difficulty with the "SAVE" button after editing the welcome message? The CANCEL button works like a charm; The SAVE button is totally useless. Perhaps a software issue? Thanks for any responses .. Helen More
Well for a paid site, these annoying and continuous DNA advertising offers/tree limit warnings (upgrade to Premium Plus offers) are pretty annoying for me. What about your opinion? Because web could not remember that I closed this offers hundreds of times before I must set up Adblock rule for that:
I just spent a week researching and adding new 500 profiles to my online tree and updating countless existing profiles. I sync'd it with Family Builder and instead of adding the new data to Family Builder, the sync reversed all of the changes that I've made.
Of course, tech support isn't open and I'm beside myself. Does anyone have any experience with this? Does myHeritage do running backups so they can restore my tree? It had over 7,200 entries. and now has less than 6700. It's not just the time to type in 500 new profiles (which is a LOT) and edit countless other profiles, but I don't think I can retrace my steps in finding all of that data.
I really hope someone checks the forums this weekend and can reassure me that all of my data will be restored.
I apologize in advance for the very long message that follows, but MyHeritage Support seems unable to help, so I’m hoping that other users might have suggestions.
In early October, when I tried to open my on-line My Heritage tree, I received a surprising pop-up message that said “An error has occurred. Please try again later.” I tried again several more times over the following days, but the result was the same. Interestingly, my family tree was still listed under the Manage Trees tab, but it would not open. In addition, I discovered that all of my Smart Matches were still listed under the Discoveries/Smart matches tab, including those Matches I had previously confirmed but were still pending by others, as well as matches confirmed by others but awaiting my confirmation, but when I tried to view these matches, there was no actual underlying data for my tree or the matching tree. In other words, My Heritage still seemed to “recognize” my family tree and related Smart Matches, but all the underlying data apparently had become “invisible” or “disconnected”. I contacted My Heritage Support on October 10. On October 19, I received a response, suggesting I clear the internet cache and cookies, which I did but still could not open my tree. Several days later, Support responded, “There is bug for the specific problem you have mentioned. The development team has been notified and they are working to fix this as soon as they can.” In the meantime, Support suggested I try to synch with my Family Tree Builder tree. When I tried this, FTB reported “…family tree not found on My Heritage website…would you like to upload a new tree?” Reluctantly, I proceeded. The result was that I now had two trees with the same name - one listed as sourced from my original GEDCOM file and one sourced from FTB. Interestingly, I could now open both trees, though none of the individual records on either tree showed any Smart Matches. The previous Smart Matches for my original tree (source: GEDCOM) were still listed under the Discoveries/Smart Matches tab though there was still no visible data when I tried to view the Matches. Not surprisingly, the previous Smart Matches did not carry over to my “new” tree (source: FTB). Interestingly, the individual records for both trees retain Record Matches though when I view those Matches, they are no longer listed as “Confirmed”. On a positive note, I do not appear to have lost any individual records or related media files/records. However, it is very frustrating to have lost access to all of my Smart Matches. I would greatly appreciate any ideas that others might be able to offer. Thanks.
In the record matches page when you clisk on the green tick, you go to the page where you can copy data, and then when you return to the match page, the filtering options are not applied - you have to reapply the filtering options after every few green ticks - which is a pain. When you return after having ticked one and copied the data, that mtach should ont now appear if the filter has been set to pending.
The improvements to the "details" pane now makes it very easy to see which person has a Biography Note attached. Thank you, this is a very welcome addition. I think it will make a big difference for people who are interested in Family History - the stories of their family.
Every time I try to generate a genealogy report it comes up with an error message. I did not have any trouble doing it previously so I wanted to know if anyone has had similar trouble amd how did you solve it?
Everything was up and running correctly on the family tree with all photos showing. Then I installed FTB on my computer, and this is THE ONLY COMPUTER WHERE I HAVE FTB, and some of the profile photos aren't synced. They are visible and assigned to the person but do not show up as a profile picture. Oh well. as long as the pictures haven't disappeared.
Then I started getting report that I can't sync the tree and ftb due to duplicate persons. So I tried uninstalling and re-installing ftb. Now only perhaps 50% of the photos show up in FTB while they are visible in the tree... This is not what I am paying 200 euros annually for. What can I do except cancelling the subscription?! And please don't tell me again that I can only have FTB on ONE computer.
