I have two trees in my account, mine and my wifes. When I print the Book, even when I'm in my wifes family tree, it prints only the inofrmation from my family tree. Is there a way to tell the program which tree to print from?
Thank you, this didn't work but here is the solution.
All printing commands seem to be attached only to the default tree. If you have a second tree like my wife's extended family go to Family Tree/Manage Trees. The default tree has a green check, the other tree has an option to make it the default tree. Click the option and the green check changes trees.
Return to the printing option and select the beginning person being careful that if the person is in both trees to select the right one.
Since around 2 weeks (maybe more) we (with my wife, on different accounts) have a problem with adding new profile pictures for any family member we try to. The site storage limit is used only in 1,2% (tree pp_66904401), the pictures are small (eg. 220x220 pixels, a few kB), the pictures are added to the person's album, but the profile picture does not change and the message "An error occurred. Please try again later." appears. We have tried on IE, Firefox, Chrome. Please solve the issue.
Hi I have not used MyHeritage for a while and have returned, I have spent the last Hour trying to find details about the new online display of the family tree
1. there now appears to be the ability to edit a published tree on line.
Question where are the settings to show who can edit online tree.
2. There now appears to be the ability to edit information on a published tree.
Same question where are the settings to show who can edit online tree?
If for some reason (as I cant find the Settings) you cannot restrict the editing of the online tree does the system change the tree as soon as someone edits the information or is it for the tree owner to confirm the changes which have been submitted?
Someone on my site has decided that my father needs to have a suffix name. Both my father and his father only have one name (and a "nickname" at that) and were registered at birth as such. This member insists that my Dad's name should be: Bill Franksz Doe. These are of course made up names to protect privacy. My Dad always was Bill Doe. Many people throughout his life have commented on that format but have never tried to insist that he needed a middle name or a suffix name. This member has changed many of of those in my family to "their format", but not in other families.
Dean, thank you for your response. It has been over a month now, since I've been able to make any updates to family tree and now have hundreds of emails that I have been unable to respond to, because of this situation.
It would seem that someone at MyHeritage would be more proactive and and communicate with me about this situation. I have asked for the encrytption and file layout of the FTL file, and was told that MyHeritage does not know that information, yet your program reads directly from the FTL file. If I had that information, then I could convert the data myself.
Or why wouldn't your QA department take advantage of my expertise, since nobody there has veen able to correct the problems in your software, and allow me to take a look at your source code, so that I could point them in the right direction to fix the problems. After all, you shouldn't have to wait 24 hours for a program to partially read an input file and then crash. It should only take a tiny fraction of that time for the entire conversion to complete.
It used to be that Privacy Settings allowed the site manager to tailor what guests could see. So a site manager could allow guests to see the front page of a Private Site, but not the contents.
Not any more. Now if the site is private, nothing is visible until members log in. So if you have a Private Site it can't be found by at all by guests.
Choosing the followiing will not display the front page of a site to guests even if they know the URL to the site.
√ Allow guests to find my site (recommended)
√ Allow guests to request membership in my site
So these two options seem to be useless. Guest can't even see the site, let alone request membership.
On the other hand, choosing the following will give guest full access to the site and all photo albums and files. Even though on the "Content" tab none of my albums are selected for "searching" they are all visible to guests if I choose the option below. The only thing "limited is living members are not visible.
√ Allow guests to view limited information in my site
The four options that used to exist under this setting seem to have been removed. So it is no longer possilbe to limit access to "Family Tree" or "Photos" or "Events" or "Members List". Choosing the above option makes all four of these available to guests - the site is fully public. Not choosing the above option hides the site from everyone - including guests. There is no in between.
In my opinion these changes are a hugh step backwards and really spoil the myHeritage site.
Are you aware that unless you disallow smart matches MyHeritage, even though your tree is Private, will take info from it and offer this info to other trees as a Dicovery.
The Discovery starts with a smart match between two trees, surely should one or other of the tree owners wish more info they can contact the tree owner in question. In this way privacy is not abused and the tree owner retains his or her contol over that which, Dean.P of MyHeritage assures me, is his or hers to manage.
Thanks Winifred, yes I am aware of the need to disable Smart matching.
Recent changes to the online software seem to have been a bit of a move against people who want private family sites. I personally hope MH doesn't keep moving in that direction.
Smart matching, in my opinion, perpetuates one of the big proplems with online genealogy sites like MH and Ancestry. That problem starts when one person publishes unresearch and incorrect information. Then several people copy that information. Then others believing the "weight of numbers" think it must be right and so the copying continues. MH Smart Matching then buys in to this volume of information - ignoring the lack of research - and perpetuates the problem. MH is now dogged by this hugh volume of incorrect and inaccurate information that is based on absolutely no research of any worth and not supported by any source records.
Smart matching could be improved a lot by giving a positive weight to matches with source records and a negative weight to those with no source records.
"Smart matching could be improved a lot by giving a positive weight to matches with source records and a negative weight to those with no source records."
Excellent suggestion. This would help a lot in cases in which you're researching distant family members or someone else's family and have no primary knowledge of what the correct data should look like (e.g. were they from NYC or PA; how many siblings did they have; what did they do for a living).
Thanks for the message. No serious genealogist ,amateur or professional, would accept thses so called "Discoveries"at face value. This Discovery Hub ressembles Ancestry Hints.
I now pay a premium plus subscription just for keeping my tree here on MyHeritage .Dean.,a member of the team assures me that my tree is mine and mine alone to manage so why then do they believe that they can abuse my privacy by dipping into my tree, taking my info, and adding it to other trees without my knowledge or permission.Surprise surprise within a couple of days I have Smart Matches showing all my own well researched info.I do enjoy helping others but it should be my choice as to whom I give or withold info from my "Private"tree.
Through discoveries I have found other family tree sites that link into mine through a 2nd grandma for example. I would like to be able to export their tree from the most recent generation back to the link in my tree. Is that at all possible? I havent found out how to download the GEDCOM from their tree yet without emailing and asking them to download and email it to me.
I have also noticed that when extracting information it does not import the photos. Is there a way to make that happen. As it currently stands I go to their page, download the pic, then upload it into my contact.
I think that you will have to add the other tree in stages as 'Discoveries' finds the matches, also out of courtesy I would ask to join the other site so that you can see all the information, and exchange ideas.
'Smart matches' will then find the other site and from each match you can import the appropriate pictures.
I have tried to contact support twice because my Request Membership and Contact Site Manager links do not work on my website. Both times I have used the Help/Support representative link and the e-mails have come back as undeliverable. How are you suppose to contact support when the links don't work?
