Welcome

Our family goes back five or six generations. On the Scotch side we go back to Prince Edward Island, Canada with many immigrating families, Campbell, Murchison, Martin and MacKenzie. On the Burton side, there are more Brittish immigrants, some of whom fought in the Revolutionary War.  Catherwood family goes back to Scandanavia and Ireland.

The site was last updated on May 28 2017, and it currently has 100 registered member(s). If you wish to become a member too, please click here.   This site is completely private, viewable by invitation only.

Naturally, the site encircles my ancestry, but it has an extensive descendant collection of many immigrating ancestors. Therefore, you will also see a great many individuals who are barely related.  I would like to welcome the family and the tremendous work of Leonard Campbell . We are paid up till 2020 or so, but if you'd like to contribute to this subscription, I would love it and I'll help (or do) your tree connection to make it relevant for you.

Photos are the heart of this program, giving us faces for our ancestors and distant cousins.

David Campbell commented on the photo Monrovia Hotel from 1900's or so. This is not the La Vista Grande Hotel. Many Differences:
When Mr Nadeau passed away in 1887 he was said to have owned the largest vineyard in the world!! His hotel in downtown Los Angeles was at First and Spring, which was torn down to make room for the Time Mirror Building. I am currently working for a charity dental clinic in downtown Los Angeles at 5th and San Pedro. The headquarters recently left the clinic building and moved to the Times Mirror Building (because newspapers are shrinking these days. So, as dental director of the Los Angeles Christian Health Center, I often work at the Times Mirror Building.
David Campbell commented on the photo Monrovia Hotel from 1900's or so. This is not the La Vista Grande Hotel. Many Differences:
Earlier this year I was the docent for the Anderson House Museum for the MOHPG Monrovia Historic Preservation Group. Mr. Nadeau was at the time one of the most prominent Los Angeles citizens with the first 4 story structure in downtown Los Angeles. This structure was also a hotel. Again this is the same owner but a much more modest hotel in monrovia.
David Campbell commented on the photo Monrovia Hotel from 1900's or so. This is not the La Vista Grande Hotel. Many Differences:
This was probably the Nadeau Hotel, which was built after La Vista Grande. Mr. Nadeau hired John Anderson to build. John Anderson then built his own home in 1984 which is today the oldest home in Monrovia and is preserved as a historic home museum at 215 Lime Ave. as the Anderson House Museum.

David Campbell commented on the photo la vista grande:
La Vista Grande was completed in 1887 a short time later Col. Samuel Keefer the owner and builder went to a second floor suite and killed himself with a Smith and Wesson. Leaving the hotel and all his debt to his children, who were forced to sell this and the family home at 131 Greystone Ave.. This hotel lasted until 1918 when a fire burned it to the ground. There was no firestation at the time, so the first first station was built on the site and Monrovia's central main fire station today still rests on the site.
