Edward James Wilding,101, of Cleveland, Avon, and Avon Lake, died Saturday, September 30, 2017, following a brief illness. He was born on December 10, 1915, in Camden Town, London, England and came to northeastern Ohio in 1951. A Tool and Die Maker who worked well into his late 70's, Mr. Wilding was invited by precision machine technology instructor John Green to share his experiences in the trade as well as his years in the British Home Guard during World War II with students at Lorain County Joint Vocational School at the age of 97 on October 30, 2013. They astounded him with their computer skills and he was very impressed with the excellent educational opportunities offered at the school. The military history students were especially interested in his stories of surviving the London Blitz, training in the military for the Home Guard, and being a plane spotter before the V-1 and V-2 rockets began bombarding London. His advice to them was to enjoy life, love your work, and "if a job is worth doing, it is worth doing well." He loved life, ballroom dancing, friends and family, music, and the arts. His laughter and British accent will be missed by many who shared those times with him. He is survived by his children Jeanette (George-dec'd) Rhyner and Carol (Paul G.) Asmondy , daughters-in-law Beth Wilding Meske and Pamela Wilding, 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Past Master of Bigelow Lodge and member of Theodore Breck Lodge, F. & A.M.
