While originally intended for taxation purposes, these records now serve as valuable census-like documents covering a large portion of the Finnish population.<br><br>This 1880 tax list includes records from the following counties: Häme, Kuopio, Mikkeli, Oulu, Turku ja Pori, Uusimaa, Vaasa, and Viipuri. Elias Lönnrot was a renowned Finnish physician, philologist, and collector of traditional oral poetry. He is best known as the compiler of the Kalevala, the Finnish national epic, which played a key role in the development of Finnish national identity in the 19th century. In addition to his literary work, Lönnrot served as a professor of Finnish language and significantly contributed to the development of the Finnish written language.
