The records in this collection originate from a set held at the National Archives of Scotland in Edinburgh (MC7 series), titled General Register of Lunatics in Asylums. Records may contain the full name of the patient, the birth date, the admission date, the location within Scotland, and the date of death in cases where a patient died in an asylum.<br><br>While record-keeping commenced in 1858, the first volume contains records of all patients who resided in Scottish asylums on January 1st, 1858, with these patients having been admitted as early as 1807.
