This collection contains death records of members of the Australian armed forces who have died during or as a result of service either during wartime or operations from the year 1885 onwards. Each name is commemorated on bronze panels at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. Records typically include the name of the deceased, year of birth, residence, date and place of death and burial place.<br><br>The memorial was completed in 1941, covering an area of 35 acres (14 hectares). In addition to their permanent inscription, names of those who lost their lives are projected onto the exterior of the hall of memory each evening between sunset and sunrise.
