2.431.301 records

The 1901 census was officially conducted on 24 March 1901 (a Sunday). Currently this collection contains records from eight departments: Charente, Creuse, Dordogne, Eure-et-Loir, Indre, Marne, Orne, and Vienne. For the departments covered, some gaps may exist due to the unavailability of the original documents. Records from Paris are not included as census only started in 1926 for Paris.

The indexed census records include given names, surnames, ages, birth places, residence information, and implied relatives. Additional details found on each record’s associated image include occupation, family relationship, additional members of the household, and nationality.

From 1836 until 1936 a national census was conducted every five years in France except for 1871 (which was delayed one year and conducted in 1872) and 1916 (which was skipped).
