Found on the 1841 Census living with his parents at Chishall Street, Great Chishall, Essex. Informant on Joseph's death was Son in Law W R Bellingham Age shown on death as 86 years 5months. Qld Post Office Directory 1900 entry: Greenmount - Joseph Burton Farmer

Died from Chronic Nephritis, Heart Failure

Found Joseph Burton on the General Hewitt arrived 16th December 1854 by himself, aged 21 years. Shows parents as James and Sarah from Essex. Reel 2137,2466.

Marriage certifcate shows his mark, therefore Joseph could not write. Witness to the marriage was Thomas Kirkpatrick and Charles Eshmann (not sure on this surname as writing is not clear.) They were married in the Episcopalian Church at Toowoomba, according to the rites and ceremonies of the Church of England.

Obituary A DOWNS PIONEER.

There passed away on the evening of the 14th instant, at his residence, Greenmount, one of the oldest pioneers of the Downs, in the person of Mr Joseph Burton. Of a retiring disposition, Mr Burton possessed many sterling qualities, which endeared him to all. The end was not wholly unexpected as he had been in indifferent health.
