!Personal Information, Birth/marr.certs.

J G Shaw was left to support his mother and family at an early age due to the

death of his father. He and his brother Cecil Rumsey Shaw were lent 2,000pounds

by their uncle,William Thomas Shaw,Rin 34, who was impressed by JG's knowledge

of electricity, then in the very early days of it's use.

The brothers had a small cycle business which

developed into The Lancashire Dynamo and Crypto Company with a big factory at

Willesden, near London, where they made electrical motors which were exported to

many foreign countries including Rhodesia. An associated company,Crypton

Electric Co. made commercial food mixers and a machine for testing the

electrical circuits of motor cars.JG was a/the director of the company till

well after his 80th birthday and was also very successful in his investments.

He and his wife,Elsie Gray Ebbs, started their married life in Bromley,Kent, and

Mrs Shaw told me they only had 300pounds a year.Their three children were born

in Bromley and in 1917 they moved to Bushey,Herts, where they lived in a big

house called"Thirlmere" Hillside Rd,corner of Grange Road.Later they moved to

a smaller house nearby in Woodlands Rd.where they had a lovely garden which had

been part of an old orchard with several different kinds of fruit trees.

When the two daughters got married they had homes nearby on opposite sides of

Belmont Bushey.

JG Shaw was Mayor of Bushey for several years and was an active supporter ofthe

Congregational Church there. to be contd.

Known to the grand children as "Bunkle"
