Biography

Hugh Roberts, one of the original Merion tract settlers who owned most of Chestnut Hill in Philly at one time, had 6 children only. They were:Robert, Ellin, Owen, Edward, Elizabeth, and William (between 1673 and 1683). There was no Mordecai.

...From "Merion in the Welsh Tract" by Thomas Allen Glenn. Converted to Quakerism in Wales. He was one of several Roberts' who were among the first Cymric settlers of Pennsylvania. Others: John Roberts, arrived 1683. William Roberts, in Merion 1697, Aaron Roberts and his father Robert Ellis. Not the same Hugh Roberts that was an early New Jersey settler.

Hugh Roberts was often referred to as a Quaker minister. Married second wife while on a trip back to Wales after death of his first wife in PA....
