Sarah A. Johnson, born in Jefferson County, Ind., Feb’y 15th, 1826 died at the home of her son-in-law, John F. Pierce, five miles southeast of Rock Port, on Monday, Oct. 2nd, 1905. The interment took place at Hunter Cemetery. Elder D. M. Philippi conducting the services. Her death resulted form a cancer on her face, from which she had suffered terribly for a bout a year. Medical and surgical skill was of no avail.

She was united in marriage with Daniel Johnson in 1852 and moved to Atchison county, Missouri from Indiana in 1856 locating five miles southeast of Rock Port. Here she lived until about 10 years ago when she bought residence property in Rock Port and moved to same. Her husband died the same year they came here and Mrs. Johnson became a shrewd business manager, acquiring a fortune from her farm.

Mrs. Johnson was the last of a family of eleven children. She leaves one child, Alice R., wife of John F. Pierce, and eight grandchildren-Charles, Lonnie, Geneva, Venus, Zane, Rena, Luther and Sallie. She was a active member of the M.E. church in Rock Port.

Aunt Sallie Johnson was known to everybody in the vicinity of Rock Port-known to be kind hearted and good though eccentric-best liked by those who understood her best.

She was all that a neighbor should be and nothing was too good for her family.

Johnson

Another of the old landmarks is gone. Mrs. Sarah Ann Johnson, a resident of Rock Port for the past decade and of this county for almost half a century, departed this life at the home of her son-in-law, John F. Pierce, five miles southeast of Rock Port, Oct. 2, 1905. The funeral service, conducted by Elder D.M. Philippe, were held at the old home, where she had been taken a short time before her death. The remains were laid beside her husband and father in the Hunter Cemetery.

The sill of medicine and surgery failed to cure a cancer which came on her face more than a year ago, so that all her friends, relatives and son-in-law could do was to use their uniting thoughts to alleviate her sufferings, which they faithfully did.

Her maiden name was Hayes. She was born in Jefferson County, Indiana, February 15, 1826, was married to Daniel Johnson in 1852. They moved to Atchison County, Missouri in 1856, locating five miles southeast of here. She was left a widow soon after locating here. Being a strong willed woman she managed her business affairs with so much energy and thrift that she accumulated considerable property. She united with the Cumberland Presbyterian church in 1852 and remained identified with them forty or more years.

Upon her removal to Rock Port about twelve years ago, she united with the ME. Church, of which she has ever since been an active member. She belonged to the W.C.T.U. and was an untiring worker in the temperance cause. She was a good neighbor and always tried to throw her influence on the side of right.

She leaves on child, Alice R., wife of John F. Pierce, and eight grandchildren, viz: Charles, Lonnie, Geneva, Venus, Zane, Zeno, Lottie and Sallie Pierce, and on great grandchild. All but two grandchildren were present in her last hours.
