Biography

WCDL marriage notice 10-12-1935: "In Parkersville Friends' Meeting House, where generations of the bride's family have met for worship, Miss Ruth Brinton Parker, daughter of the late John Parker and Mrs. Hattie Brinton Parker, of West Miner street, became the bride of George Rhoads, son of William B. Rhoads, of Oakbourne and Tunasassa, NY. The wedding occurred on Saturday afternoon in the presence of a large gathering of relatives and friends. The ceremony, in accordance with the usage of the Society of Friends, was in the care of J. Passmore Elkinton and wife, of Moylan; J. Edwin and Mary C. James, Rebecca Savery, of West Chester, and Anna Forsythe, of Newtown Square, representing the meeting. The wedding certificate was read by the father of the groom. The bride, attended by her cousin, Miss Sylvia Hetzel, this place, as maid of honor, wore a gown of ivory velvet, with short train, and carried a boquet of gardenias and lillies-of-the-valley. She wore a gardenia in her hair. The maid of honor was in Carribean blue velvet, with matching slippers. Her boquet was of bronze snapdragons, harmonizing with the costume. The ushers were Leebert L. Logan, of London Grove; Samuel B. Bucknell, of Unionville; Thomas A. Dewees, of Philadelphia, and John Parker, of Germantown. Following the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride's mother on West Miner street, where a wedding supper was served and the many beautiful gifts were on display. About one hudred guests extended congratulations and good wishes to the young people. Mr. and Mrs. Rhoads will reside in West Chester for the present, after their return from a short wedding trip." Died of Cancer. West Chester Daily Local News obit 11-4-1957 reports Ruth Parker Rhoads, of Middletown, Del died 11-3-1957; at one time worked at Chester County Courthouse with her father, then with her mother, who suceeded father as Treasurer afetr his death.
