Venus John Pierce
Venus John Pierce, Johnny, to those of us who know and love him, was born February 22, 1918, to Venus and Marie Pierce. As a child he spent much time with his uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Blum, and lived with them for awhile. While with them he was able to spend more time with his grandparents then some of the grandchildren did.
Johnny served in WWII in Guam. He wasn't involved in the fighting as the war was almost over, but he was in charge of supplies for the troops.
Upon his return to the United States, he met the sister of a girlfriend, Deane Zierenberg, and they were married on the 20th of January, 1946, in a quiet ceremony in Fairbury, Nebraska. The newly married couple took up residence with Johnny's parents on their farm, and Johnny took over the farm operations. Johnny's parents moved about six months later to Belvedere, Nebraska, and Johnny and Deane stayed on at the farm for many years. After the death of Johnny's father, Venus, in 1948, his mother, Marie, came to live with them. This was difficult for Deane as she was soon to have her own family to care for, but the strong person that she was, she endured the hardship, and made the best of it.
Three children were born to Johnny and Deane while they were still on the farm in Reynolds, Nebraska. Dennis born 9-30-1948, Eddie John born 7-30-1952, and Jan Marie born 8-30-1957.
I remember, as a child many times visiting Uncle Johnny and Aunt Deane. Deane was always so nice, and thoughtful, and careful not to hurt a childs delicate feelings. I remember Christmas, and birthday get togethers. We almost always went to Uncle Johnny's on his birthday, as my oldest sister shared that with him. Jan and I being close in age spent much time together when we were young, but as the families grew, so did the miles and the get togethers became more scarce.
Johnny later bought a liquor store in Hebron, Nebraska, and worked at that for a few years before going back to farming in Gibbon, Nebraska.
Their children are all grown, and Johnny and Deane, enjoyed going to the horse races where as Jonny has race horses that run.
Dennis "Denny" Pierce lives in Nevada and works the pipeline. He is married to Loralei "Forrest" born 9-16-1950. They were married 9-21-1983 and have no children.
Eddie is a doctor in Minden, Nebraska. He married Dixie Schutt born 6-26-1951. Dixie had a daughter, Nikki born 5-28-1972. Together they had a son, Charles John born 1-12-1983. They are now divorced
Jan lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado and works for Coastal Gas. She is married to Charles "Chuck" Michalak (December 23, 1989.) They have one daugher Sarah Marie.
Johnny died while visiting his son Dennis in Las Vegas in October of 1999. He had a heart attack while taking a shower. He is buried in Fairbury Nebraska next to his parents and his brother Cliff.
