  Additional information:

LifeSketch: Family history: 3 "Mauritius (Moritz) Klein of Postorff, Alsace married Anna Catharina Martzloff on 19 October 1706, as recorded in the Hirschland church records (ALS1, p 39). The record notes that Moritz is the son of Sebastian Klein of Steinsal and that Anna Catharina is the daughter of Joh Theobald and Barbara Martzloff of Postorff. These same church records contain the baptism dates and sponsors for each of their 11 children. Additional information is in the Hirschland church records, such as confirmation dates and marriage and death events.Moritz's first child, Bernhard, is born in Steinsal, the others are born in Postorff. Both of these villages are near the village of Hirschland, which was the parish center for all the surrounding villages at this time. The third born child is presumed to be named Jacob after his sponsoring relative Joh Jacob Klein. Similarly, the unnamed twins are presumed to be Adam and Maria Barbara Klein, based on their baptismal sponsors' names.Moritz's first-born daughter, Anna Magdalena Klein, married Peter Lentz in Postorff. Magdalena died in Postorff on 28 August 1769. Her surviving husband and several of their children came to America. Their son Nicholas Lentz married Catharina Magdalena Klein, a granddaughter of Moritz's brother Sebastian Klein in Postorff and remained in Alsace. Peter Lentz's other three sons came to America.Moritz's daughter, Anna Margaretha, dies at age seven in 1728.Moritz Klein and seven of his children are known to have immigrated to America, per later annotations added to their baptism records. Two of Moritz's other children are believed to also immigrate, leaving only Anna Magdalena Klein Lentz behind in Alsace. Moritz's children who immigrate are:Sebastian (Bastian) Klein arrives on 3 September 1739 on the ship Robert and Alice.Bernhard Klein arrives on 29 September 1741 on the ship Lydia.Michael Klein arrives on 20 October 1747 (Table A, #27). The church records state that Michael is a son of Moritz Klein and marries Catherine Schufert, daughter of George Schufert, on 17 June 1750 at Christ Church (Mertz Church) on Bieber Creek, in Rockland township, Berks county, Pennsylvania. Their first child, Christina Magdalena (b 13 Apr 1751), is baptized there (PA1, p 139, 185). Mertz Church is probably the church ofMichael's wife and her family, since neither Michael nor the rest of the Moritz Klein family appear in the records of Mertz Church.Johannes Klein is perhaps the one who arrives on either 25 Oct 1748 or 2 September 1749 (Table A, #29, 31). He is on the Longswamp township, Berks county tax list in 1752 and 1754 as a single man and in 1762 and 1764-1765 as a married man. Johannes may be the one who as a widower marries a widow Mary Margaret Petsch on 28 April 1765 in Reading (PA26). Johannes has a daughter Louisa baptized on 11 June 1769 at Longswamp Reformed Church (PA9).Jacob Klein arrives with his father Moritz Klein on 15 September 1749 on the ship Phoenix. Neither Jacob nor Moritz appear in the Pennsylvania records.Adam Klein and Maria Barbara Klein are twin son and daughter of Moritz and immigrate per the church record notation but are not found on any ship list or in any Pennsylvania records.Anna Christina Klein has no immigration notation in the church record. However, it is believed that she came to America with her father in 1749 at the age of 19. She is a sponsor for the baptism of her brother Michael's first-born child, Christina Magdalena Klein, on 13 April 1751 at Mertz Church. Anna Christina's name was misread as Christian Klein by the translator of the Mertz Church records (PA1, p 139).Theobald Klein has no immigration notation in the church record, but it is believed that he came to America with his father in 1749 at the age of 17, since he was too young to leave behind. Theobald is probably the one who is the first husband of Anna Christina Mertz in Longswamp township and then dies about 1759. Theobald Klein and wife Anna Christina of Longswamp sponsor a baptism on 17 March 1751 at Zion Lutheran Church in Lehigh county (PA15, p 3).The information noted above is all that is found in the Pennsylvania records for Mortiz Klein and his children except for his sons Sebastian and Bernhard, who appear in the Pennsylvania land records."He immigrated Moritz Klein arrived on the ship Phoenix, on 15 Sep 1749. 4 Moritz Klein and seven of his children are known to have immigrated to America, per later annotations added to their baptism records. Two of Moritz's other children are believed to also immigrate, leaving only Anna Magdalena Klein Lentz behind in Alsace.Alt. burial place: , Lincoln County, North Carolina, USA. Source: Cline family websitehttp://www.ncgenweb.us/catawba/Cline/SebastianCline-ped.pdf"Sebastian and Bernhard are jointly issued a warrant on 17 February 1743 (warrant #55 in Philadelphia county) for 238 acres on Saucon Creek in what is today the southwest corner of Longswamp township, Berks county (PA18). Bernhard and Sebastian's father Moritz and their brothers and sister probably also lived on this land when they arrived in 1747, 1748 and 1749. The family probably attended the Longswamp Reformed Church, but the early church records have not survived. Therefore, no marriages, deaths or baptism records are found for Moritz or his children, except for Michael at a different church (Mertz church). Moritz, may have died in Longswamp before 1760, the date of the earliest surviving records of the Longswamp Reformed Church."The information noted above is all that is found in the Pennsylvania records for Mortiz Klein and his children except for his sons Sebastian and Bernhard, who appear in the Pennsylvania land records."
