In 1890 he was working in the mining industry at Tabletop ., he was cleaning out a boiler when a sudden escape of water scalded him all over his back loins and left arm. He was admitted to Croydon hospital as an emergency patient , but his discharge listed " cure ". 2 years later he married Ellen Reardon / Riordan in Normanton , they had 2 sons Daniel Thomas Butler 1893 and John James Butler 1896 . Daniel went on to enlist in both wars WW1 and WW11 but baby John died 1887. about this time the parents seperated, and Ellen subsequently had 4 Purcell children. 1889 John was mining in Chillego spent another 5 days in hospital no cause listed , this may have been when he met Susannah McQueen . There daughter Jane was born 1903 and her birth certificate lists her father as John Butler 34y and mother as Susannah McQueen formerly Hosford 33y . Susannah was enrolled to vote at Croydon in 1906when womans suffrage was introduced in Queensland . John Butler was also enrolled at Croydon 1909 to 1912 a miner at Esmeralda . He succumed to phthisis and pulmonary tuberculosis and admitted to Croydon hospital on 26 January 1912. He was discharged a with some 'relief ' a months later. , but died at Mary street on 10 May 1912.Susannah also of Mary Street was the informer .. On admission his marital status was widowed and no children at all were recorded. However two weeks after his death , his former wife married James William Purcell , the father of her last 4 children .
