Biography

Moved about 1803 when he married Margaret Leishman, the daughter of a Fifshire fisherman, moved to Cupar, Fife. He had learnt the trade of a weaver & in cupar the weaving of coarse linens was the principal industry. the town had 3 spinning mills and some 600 looms. They remained there for the next 50 years, where a large family was born. They later moved to Australia to settle with their wives and families.

Migrated to Australia  in 1852, with Margaret to join their children in Australia - arrive 29 April 1853, into Port Phillip, Victoria, Australia. ( aged 70 years). Rcords show that the arival date was 29 Apr 1853 at Port Phillip Bay, Australia (departure from Leith) on the Ship 'Wonderer' , his nationality as Scottish! His 'calling' is listd on th ships manifest as 'Confectioner'!!!!

John McFarlane (1783-1867) and his wife Margaret (1786-1864) had 13 children:

William McFarlane B 1823 - Auatralia 1852 (Geelong) (M Isabella Brown) 9 James McFarlane B 1825 - 10 Frank McFarlane B 1827 - to Australia 1852 (Sth Aust) 11 Fife McFarlane B 1829 - 12 & 13 (unk)

Their eldest son, John (B 1811)) is thought to have beome a lawyer. He remaine in Scotland. Their second & third sons  Thomas (B 1816) and Cunningham (B 1818) both migrated to Australia in 1849. Later Janet (Jessie) B 1821), William, (B 1823) and Frank (B 1827) all migrated in 1852. The other two sons James (B1825) and Fife (B 1829) remained in Scotland.
