"Earl Marvin" had a crippled leg, due to playing baseball and sliding into a rock (age 43?). He walked with a cane, from that point on.

At one time, he bought cattle and drove them to the stockyards in Calico Rock, Arkansas. They were shipped to St. Louis, Missouri, by railroad, to the larger stockyards where they were sold.
