According to Doug Garnett of the Garnett Family Registry, Salvatore was a stone cutter from Italy. He went to England following the Great Fire of 1666 in London as workers with his skills were in demand in the rebuilding of the city. He worked under the direction of Sir Christopher Wren in the construction of St. Paul’s Cathedral. Salvatore immigrated to Virginia in about 1685 and settled on land next to one of the Garnett families living there.
