Biography

wed 4 November, 1869
Comments:
June Craft wed Israel  She was older than the first cousin whom she wed after his return from the Civil War. She was shorter than much of my family, maybe 5 feet 2 inches. Her very tall husband built special furniture for her. She had a fiery temper and her genial husband said that he never said a cross word to Betty Jane, but he added, with a twinkle in his eye, 'I did a lot of walking!' I think that in old age she may have looked a lot like my distant cousin and hers, Letty (Doub) Moore, who today is tiny and arthritic.

When I was a baby, I was taken to meet Betty Jane, who by then was living in Albemarle, NC, with her daughter, Flora (Long) Snotherly, but as I was not yet two years old, I do not remember this occasion, as she died soon after.
