Later that year John and all of his family migrated to Australia they arrived at Cooktown,Northern Queensland on the 19th of November 1881 on the ship Chyebassa. I don't know how long they stayed in Cooktown but my great-grandmother Margaret McKay nee Twaddle was born in Helidon, southern Queensland in 1888. By 1892, John is living in Maryborough, Queensland working as a Ironworker, where sadly both his wife Margaret and infant son die, John appears to have taken his own life on the 19th on December 1892 leaving behind 7 children, John 20, Maria Elizabeth 15, Jane 12, Thomas 11, Mary Jane7, Annie 5 and my greatgrandmother Margaret aged 4. John and Margaret were both members of the Non-Conformist, Wesleyan Methodist Church. Both he and Margaret are buried in the Maryborough Cemetery.
