Died of wounds suffered during WW I. Was being cared for in Orsett, Essex when he passed away. British war memorial site shows his service as Manchester Regiment 2/7th. His service number listed as 277123. Known as the Manchester Pals, this was a Territorial (reserve) unit that ended up serving with the Manchester 2/5. My dad (Joseph Heywood) thought that Alfred served with his father William as well as an uncle.
