Biography

David was drowned in Glasgow on Halloween night 1882.

The following appeared in the Glasgow Herald  newsapaper on Nov 1, 1882

 

Man drowned in the Forth and Clyde canal

Yesterday afternoon a carter named David Bowie was drwned in the Forth adn Clyde Canal at Mid Wharf, Port Dundas.  Bowie, who had been engaged oading his cart, went to the canal for the purposes of washing the shovel he had been working with.  While leaning over theedge he slipped and fell into the water and disappeared.  Two men, names Jas. Murphy and Jas. Stephenson, endeavored o resuce Bowie, but their efforts were unsuccessful.  The body was found shortly afterwards.   Deceased  was 60 years of age and resided in Duke Street.
