Grace (Doubt) Sleep, daughter of William & Jane (Knight) Doubt - Born in Bere Alston, Devon, England on 19 April 1828; wife of Samuel Sleep

Grace Sleep died on Sunday, November 4, 1906 at the age of 78 years 6 months and 16 days.
The Daily Mining Gazette of Houghton, Michigan (Tuesday, November 6, 1906, page 7) reported:

DIED SUNDAY. Mrs. Grace Sleep Passed Away At Home of Her daughter. Mrs. Grace Sleep died Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Cudlip, Florida street, Laurium, after a lengthy illness. She had been rapidly growing weaker so that her death was not entirely unexpected. Mrs. Sleep came to Laurium about seven years ago from Houghton to make her home with her daughter in Calumet.
The decedent was born in Cornwall, Eng., seventy-two years ago, and came to the copper country when it was becoming recognised as a place with a future. She is survived by five grown up children. They are Mrs. Cudlip, Mrs. Tredea, of Franklin Jr., George Sleep, of Hancock, Samuel, of Calumet, and William Henry Sleep, of California.
The funeral will take place Wednesday morning at eleven o'clock, services being held at the Laurium M.E. church, Rev. W.E. Marvin officiating, and interment at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton.

The Copper County Evening News (Monday, November 5, 1906, page 8) further noted:

Grace Sleep - Old resident of Houghton County passes away in Laurium. The death occurred yesterday morning of Mrs. Grace Sleep at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Cudlip, Florida Street, Laurium. The decedent was 79 years of age and was one of the oldest residents of Houghton County. About 7 years ago, she came to Calumet from Houghton where she had been a continuous resident for upwards of 20 years.
On coming to Calumet, the late Mrs. Sleep made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Cudlip. The decedent was born in Cornwall, England, coming to this country many years ago. She was well known in Houghton County and her demise will be regretted by a large circle of friends.
She is survived by two daughters and three sons. The daughters are Mrs. William Cudlip of Laurium and Mrs. Tredea of Franklin; while the sons are Samuel of Calumet, George of Hancock, and William Henry of California. The funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00, Reverend William E. Marvin of the Laurium M.E. Church officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Houghton.
