Josiah, son of Wm and Deborah Malander Eldridge probably born in Greenwich, Gloucester, NJ 12 May 1777. Gloucester county records show Wm and Deb acquired land in Greenwich in 1774....residents of the town of Gloucester.Jo and Sarah married 23 Mar 1801 in Gloucester County. Sarah dtr of John and Sarah Matlack Middleton b ca 1779 probably in Haddonfield, NJ. 17 Mar 1801 deed Josiah storekeeper and resident of Woodbury. Eldridge family moved to Haddonfield in 1809 (children Duncan, Hannah, Josiah Jr,,  Anna)Josiah known to be alive in 1824 in deed to son 23yo Duncan in Haddonfield. 1837 widow Sarah moved to Moorestown, Chester Twnshp, Burlington Co, NJ. Sarah died 1 Apr 1843 in Haddonfield. They were Quakers.1. Duncan Campbell b 2 Aug 1801 Woodbury, Gloucester, NJ2. Hannah Jan 1804 Woodbury, married Abel Smal and moved after 1856 to Dvenport, Scott, IA where Abel was grocer. He died 24 Apr 1859. Hannah lived with her sister Anna Rumbold. Hanna died 4 Jun 1872 in Davenport, buried w/husband in J. M. Eldridge lot in Davenport's Oakdale Memorial Gardens SEc 1 Lot 158.3. Josiah Jr b. no date, Gloucester County NJ, m. Miriam Adams of Egg Harbor NJ 24 Jan 1848.4. Anna b 1805 Gloucester County NJ. Married 1st: James Drury, 2nd James Hayes (no BMD). 1860 married to James Rumbold and lived in Davenport. James b Scotland ca 1791. Came to US in 1836 with wife Margaret and children, settling in NY, then came to Daveport in July 1839 where he formed and acted as minister of Christian Church (now 14th & Perry). Rev Rumbold d 5 Jan 1862 and is buried in Oakdale w/ Anna. She lived in Plainkinton, Dakota Territory at time of Duncan's death in 1881.5. John Mullen b 1 Sept 1910 in Gloucester Co NJ d 13 Feb 1891 Davenport. Marrie dMary Ann Adams (no BMD6.  William b ca 1812 in Gloucester County, NJ. Age 28 married Miss Lavinia Van Horn on 24 Dec 1840 in Davenport. Not in Iowa 1850 census. Wm lived in Egg Harbor in 1882.

Carol Bawden Duncan Campbell Eldridge's 1st marriage
Rebecca Lippincott was his 2nd marriage. They had been childhood friends. Don't know why he didn't marry her in the first place.His first marriage was to Rachel Brown (no bio info except death).Duncan and Rachel wre married 8 Jan 1822 in Haddonfield, NJ (isn't that in Camden County?). They lived there until the birth of Jacob Mullen Eldridge 20 Nov 1824. They moved to Rochester, Mercer, NY where 2 more children were born, both dying in infancy. In 1827, Rachel died (no cause) and Duncan returned to Haddonfield where he left 4-yr-old Jacob with Gramma Sarah Eldridge who was a widow at this point. Duncan moved to Cincinnati to work at his bricklaying and plastering trade.On 4 Nov 1829 in Cincinnati, Hamilton OH Duncan married Rebecca. dtr of Micajah and Sarah Roberts Lippincott b 23 Jan 1807 in Haddonfield.If you're interested, I can give you more Eldridge stuff.  My great-grandmother was Jacob's dtr. Jennie was 7th of 9 children born in Davenport, Scott, IA.

Carol Bawden Charles Henry Eldridge - Duncan and Rebecca's 1st child
Charles was married 3 times: 1. Josephine B. Thompson 15 Jul 1858 in Davenport. She and her parents Joseph B and Sarah English Thompson came to Davenport from Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, PA. where Josephine was born 6 Apr 1837. She died of consumption (tuberculosis) 10 Dec 1867 after their 4th child, Charles Howard b 26 Oct 1867 and he died 20 Feb 1868.2. Rebecca E. Thompson 30 Dec 1868 (Josephine's sister). Born 9 Aug 1847 in Haddonfield, Camden, NJ. She died in their home on Brady & 13th St. at age 24 on 8 Oct 1871. The stone says Rebecca E. wife of Charles H. Eldridge.3. Mary Josephine Waterman - went by Josephine - gravestone has Josephine but Oakdale database has Mary Jo. She was born 21 Jan 1852 in Cincinnati, Hamilton, OH to Dr. and Mrs. James/Joseph Waterman. The family moved to Kokomo, Howard, IN after her birth. Her father died there and the family moved to Davenport where she got her education. She had a brother, Judge Charles M. Waterman of Davenport. About 1887, Charles moved his family to Kansas City, Jackson, MO. Four years later on 14 Sept 1892, Charels died from a fall down an elevator shaft in the Nelson Bld in KC. His widow andchildren returned to Davenprot where Josephine died 1 Feb 1927. They are buried in Oakdale.

Carol Bawden Sarah E. Eldridge
Sarah was born 3 May 1837 in Davenport, Scott, IA, the first white girl born in Davenport. She married on 25 Dec 1860, Charles Asher in her family home at 214 W. 5th St. (Brady intersection) in Davenport. Charles was born ca 1834 in Niagara County, NY. He served in the Civil War as a private in Co. D, 20th Reg, Iowa Infnatry. On 1 Dec 1875, Sarah died in Delmar, Clinton, IA from an overdose of chloroform (dental? childbirth? medical other?). She is buried on her father's plot in Oakdale Cemetery, Sec 2 Lot 49. Charles left as soon as Sarah was put in the ground. He is found in the 1880 census in Nebraska, married to Phebe Jones, adopted her 3 children and having 2 of their own. He died 21 May 1884. No location. Probably in Nebraska. Charles was a railroad man.
