Funeral Services Held for Patrick James Ryan
Funeral services for Patrick James Ryan, who passed away at the soldiers' home in Quincy, last Thursday evening were held Saturday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Joseph's church, Rock Island. Burial was made in Calvary cemetery. Mr. Ryan was born December 20 1846, in Ireland and came to this country with his parents at the age of 2 years. They returned to the old country again and he remained with his parents until 1859, when he returned to the United States and directly to Rock Island county, going to the home of his uncle John Hynes, on a farm south of Milan. He remained there until 1864 when he enlisted in Co. H 123d Illinois infantry. He served through two enlistment and later spent some time at the home of his uncle, until he was employed as a guard at the Rock Island Arsenal and remained in this position until he was admitted to the soldiers' home at Quincy. He was a member of John Buford post, G.A.R. He had never married and besides his cousin, Walter Hynes , of Rock Island, he is survived by one sister, Mrs. Ann Davis, of Iowa.

Charles Claydon Linda: I was surprised to know about Patrick Ryan's return to Ireland with his parents; I do not know date of this return. Since Anna was born in 1851 in Rock Island, IL it appears the return to Ireland was between 1851 and 1859 and that both Patrick and Anna came back to Rock Island together. I have no information on where Anna stayed until she married in 1875. Do you have any more facts on these questions?

Unknown Anna Ryan is such a common name it is very hard to find when she came to the Us but it seems more likely she came with her brother.
