What file types does Promethease accept?

Updated over 5 months ago

Promethease is compatible with a wide range of DNA data formats, including those from the following services:

  • 23andMe*

  • Ancestry.com

  • FamilyTreeDNA (SNP test only, not STR)

  • National Geographic (Geno 2.0 / Geno 2.0 NextGen)

  • DNA.land

  • Complete Genomics

  • WeGene

  • Affymetrix GCOS

  • Illumina GenomeStudio

  • VCF files (only if the ID column contains dbSNP rs# identifiers)

  • dbSNPAnnotated.bz2 (highly recommended)

  • masterVarBeta files

Promethease also supports data from many other services, including now-defunct companies such as:

  • deCODEme

  • Navigenics

Important Note:

* Due to changes with the 23andme file formatting, some users have complained about issues when trying to upload 23andMe raw data to Promethease. To resolve this, we recommend the following workaround:

  • You need to prepare the 23andMe file for upload by removing the header lines. Specifically, please delete the first four lines of the file, which all begin with #####.

  • Once the header lines have been removed and the file has been saved, you should be able to upload your 23andMe file to Promethease.

Please upload your original, unmodified DNA data file. Do not attempt to decompress, edit, or convert the file into another format. Most conversion tools are unreliable and may corrupt your data. If you upload a manually altered or self-generated file, it may not be recognized and could trigger warnings.

Promethease identifies each format based on specific header information in tab- or CSV-delimited files, so maintaining the original structure is crucial for accurate processing.
