How do MyHeritage and Geni operate?

Updated over 4 months ago

MyHeritage and Geni operate as separate platforms with distinct purposes, and your family trees on each platform cannot be combined.

We plan to maintain this separation for the foreseeable future. MyHeritage will remain a forest of independent private family trees, while Geni will remain focused on building a one-family only tree of the world.

If you wish to transfer your Geni project to MyHeritage, please refer to our guide: How can I import a family tree from Geni?

Cross-Platform Benefits

Despite their separation, users of both platforms can enjoy some integrated features:

  • Smart Matching technology works between MyHeritage and Geni trees

  • Geni users can access MyHeritage's Record Matching and Smart Matching™ to discover new family information within MyHeritage's historical records and family trees

Subscription Information

To access these cross-platform benefits, Geni users need a MyHeritage Data Subscription, which provides:

  • full access to all MyHeritage Record Matches;

  • the possibility to contact MyHeritage family tree's webmasters;

  • unlimited access to the MyHeritage Search Engine for historical records.

Please Note: These benefits are not included in the GeniPro subscription, which only covers features offered directly by Geni.
