I am trying to get information on African American’s with the “surnames” of Bogan ,Bogans or possibly Bogany. My great-grandmother's mother name was  Jane  Bogan.  In the census of 1880 Jane was living with her daughter Minerva Bogan in Polk County, TX.   Minerva was divorced from her first husband Pleasant  Walker who was my Great grand-father.  Pleasant  and Minerva (Bogan) Walker had five children. The children were Susie, Willie, Floyd ,Pleasant (Pleas my granfather) and Dennis.  All of the children are listed as Bogan in the 1880 census but they were the children of Pleasant Walker, their names are listed as Walker in later census records.  After Pleasant and Minerva were divorced she married a man named King Roberts.  Minerva also had a  twins whose names were Bessie and Dessie Mayo. I have no information on  who the twins father might have been

In the census of 1900 Jeffery Walker( Minerva’s son), the twins and Leo Calep who is identified as a grandson are members of King and Minerva’s household.  I am not sure where Jane was born as her place of birth is Alabama in one census and Tennessee in another. One last bit of information that might be helpful is that many of the people mentioned here are listed as Mulatto. I don't know what impact that might have on the research but I feel that any information could prove valuable. I would like to speak with anyone with information on this family, I will be happy to share the information I have gathered on the family thus far. I can be contacted at joy4288@hotmail.com or via my cell phone, the number is 832-882-3408.
