I am interested in learning more about my ancestors on my mothers side. She was born Thelma Myrtle Hornsby in Eunice,Louisiana. She married Morris Franklin Hanson in the 1930s. I was born in Lafayette,La. on 8 19 1940.
On his WWII draft registration, under "person who will always know your address" Morris Franklin HANSON wrote "Mrs. E.H. Hornsby - mother-in-law"
Looking for HORNSBY families in Eunice, St. Landry, LA, there's an Elijah H. who is sometimes listed as E.H. in census records and sometimes as Lige. His wife is listed as Annie or Mary Anne. Her findagrave page lists her as Mary Anne:
The 1930 census for Eunice, St. Landry, LA:
HORNSBY, Lige age 51 b. LA, both parents b. LA
wife Mary Anne age 39 b. LA, both parents b. LA
dau Anne age 23
son Roy age 21
dau Lillian age 19
dau Agnes age 17
I think there are some children missing from this census. I can only see the transcription and not the actual image, so a mistake could have been made in transcribing. If these are her parents, and I think they probably are, your mother would have been 15 and presumably not yet married. In 1940 the family is in the same location. Children at home are daughter Annie, age 32, and a son D.J., age 20. He should have been listed as a 10 yr old in 1930, but he is not there.
If you think this could be your mother's family and would like me to try and trace Elijah's line further back, just let me know.
I'm looking for information on my family tree, dating back from my grandfather, John Thomas Hornsby, and grandmother Doreen (nee. Davis or Davies). My family is based in the Country Durham area, but my grandfather used to live in the Thornaby and Hilton areas of the north riding of Yorkshire, while my grandmother lived in Wales until she was about 6. I'm tracing as many branches of my tree as possible right now, so any further information you may require, please ask.
